Default What is the canister on my exhaust pipe?

Everytime I do exhaust work I keeping wondering what the little "canister is on the side of my pipe. It's before the muffler and right behind where the pipe unbolts. 2010 5.4L

In the diagram I uploaded it is on the side of #10

Yes, it's a damper. I read somewhere a while back, if you had the "chrome package", with the chrome exhaust tip, this came on your midpipe. Mine didn't have it, and when I ran the stock exhaust, I never noticed any vibration or strange noises. I don't have a clue why Ford figured it was needed.
