So, Today I went to a dealer who had all sorts of trucks. I was able to compair the 5 ft bed super crew against the 6 ft bed super crew and against my F-250. It seems the 6 ft crew is only two or three inches smaller (all over) than my F-250. The F-250 is a beast to park around here. I like the look of the shorter bed, but the bigger one seems way more useful to me. The proportions do not look that strange to me when the truck is sitting by itself, but if you put it next to the F-250 it seems long and narrow. It is strange because the tape measure says the F-250 is only three inches wider than the F-150. Now the next dilemma. What color!
Now I own a 5.5' bed and love it. It's a tad bit shorter than the 6.5' bed, but still a lot easier to park in the city. Now I find the majority of time (99%), the 5.5' works. Only here and there (we're talking 3 times in 3 years), that I needed a longer bed. This is where the bed extender comes in real handy.
But go with your gut. If you find you might really need the 6.5', better get it and not live with regrets for buying the 5.5'.
I suggest dark blue or silver on the color. Do you know what model you want (XLT, Lariat, KR, Platinum)?
I was a little disappointed my dealer didn't have any 5.5' beds on the lot when I grabbed my SCrew. I wanted it because I hoped it would be easier to park (esp in the garage). However, now that I've used it a few times and been able to compare the beds with other owners, I'm really glad that I was forced to the 6.5' bed. That extra 1' makes all the difference when things are actually in there.
I compare it to having the SCrew vs the Extended cab. They both hold extra cargo / people inside but one simply has extra space and is more functional. I guess its all a matter of how you use your truck.

That's about how I see it. By itself, the F150 6.5' bed looks okay. Next to an F250 or next to the F150 5.5' bed, the proportions look a little off.

I will probably go with a Lariat. I am really leaning toward the 6.5 bed. Just because for those short overnight camping/fishing trips me and my son can sleep in the back.
My F-250 is white with gold bottom. Tan leather interior. For the F-150 I'm wanting a black interior, just because the tan gets so filthy really fast. However I looked at a red truck and liked it. The red seems to want a tan interior. I haven't seen a blue one in person yet so I don't know how that would do for me. The blue seems like it could take a black interior better. I like the look of white too, but it needs the tan interior. AAARRRGGHHH! Just shoot me!
My purchase is dependent upon being able to get 15K for my F-250. (2000 Lariat V-10 4X4 Crew 33K miles if anyone is interested)
