So I should mention something about the steering gear?
It's driving me crazy already! It just doesn't feel right.

With my truck they replaced the entire steering column at first. After that didn't fix the problem they installed "sensors" throughout the front end and sent the results to Ford Engineering. Ford Engineering suggested replacing the steering gear with the results they were given as they have found it to be a common problem. I know exactly what you mean by it feeling "weird". I couldn't really explain it to the service guys here which made it even more frustrating. After it was fixed, the truck felt like it did when I drove it off the lot when I bought it. Good luck!

Check out the attached thread below. This comes from the forum, and will be able to provide you with all of the information that you will need. Trust me, it is the steering gear. I too had mine replaced.

If the dealer is willing to do the work and not argue about it, they will have to order the part which may or may not be on national backorder. Mine was and I had to wait about a month for the new gear. Once the part arrived, I made an appointment and dropped it off the night before. They were able to start to work on it the next morning around 8:30 a.m., and by 1:30 p.m. the same day they called me and said that it was done. There will be some programming in the computer for the new part, and an alignment will need to be performed after the new gear is installed. I took a look at the old part, and of course there was a sticker that read "Taiwan" on the old part. Pretty sad, but all seems well for now.

So it takes longer to get the parts than to do the sugary lol. Well that's if they are back ordered. I hope they don't argue with me about it, they shouldnt since this is common. And go figure about the gear..

Not to hijack here - but this may/may not dovetail into an issue that I've noticed with mine. I haven't noticed anything extreme when I hit bumps, but I DO have a higher frequency vibration (very slight) in the steering wheel - and the same vibration is present in the accelerator pedal...for clarity, this has nothing to do with hitting bumps - this is during normal driving conditions.

The issue is totally random (no specific RPMs, Speeds, Gears, Trans Temp, Engine Temp, etc.) Am I in your same ball park here? As I said, it's slight...but I'm worried about it (only 1700 miles so far).

You have the vibration apparent in the accelerator pedal as well?
