When you deal with These folks you really feel like your dealing with a family business who cares. It's very refreshing to know that there is still businesses out there that puts the customer first, each and every time. Jeff kept me in the loop daily with progress reports as the fabricated. He certainly didn't have to do that.
Well that's enough of me pumping Solo's tires!! On to the business at hand!
Currently on the truck is the single setup. I'm going to let them talk specifics, but it's big (think lots of 4" stainless pipe, not just the tip), it's beautiful, and sounds badass. I really hope the sound transfers to video well as we all know this is not always the case. The interior exhaust note at highway cruise is spot on. It lets you know it's not messing around when you stand on it as well. I haven't had the chance to do much listening on the outside yet, but Jeff did some passes by me the other day, and it was killer. Myself, I can not call it a V8 note, but that is not to take anything away from the way it sounds. Deep, ballsy, brassy tone. I can report no drone or harsh frequencies inside as of yet. I believe they used sound frequency meters inside to focus in on what needed to be eliminated. On top of this performance is noticeably improved, and it's looking like there will be about a 1 mpg boost in mileage. I'll know better next week when I'm back to driving my normal route.
I haven't experienced the dual setup yet, but am told the sound is quite similar but a little more vinegar on the chips, if you follow. I will definitely post after I try it out as they have to do some final fitting of the production version.
As a final word, let me say that if it sounds like myself and my friend Dave from Kansas are on the payroll at Solo, I assure you I'm not. Not sure about Dave though! It's just hard not to be infected with the excitement and passion they have for what they do. Call them and you'll know what I mean.
And to my friend Farmerdukes who posted about driving my truck...when he says we work together, what he means is there is a place we both show up and fool them into a paycheque every week. Sometimes that is hard work!!

Thanks for the update and hope you'll keep us posted. I'm in Toronto, so would be great to do this all locally.

Trooper, kind of early to say, but it's looking like I've picked up an easy 1 mpg. I need to to my usual routine for a couple more days though to help average out headwind/tailwind etc. this is off the dash as well. But I know where my best average before was and I know where it's at now. So.....
I won't show a pic of the system in my truck right now because it's the one they used for development. It's been hacked and welded several times, and is not representative of the production setup.
As for vids...I'm actually giving Jeff at Solo the truck back next week so he can reshoot all the video. I guess when they download all the media to edit, they discovered the mic they were using wasn't picking up the full range of sound. He's waiting on new equipment.
Maybe they have a pic they can tease with? Don't know.
As a side note, let's not forget they are soon to be working on a system for the 5.0 as far as I know. It should rock for sure!

Update
Hi everyone. I thought I would give you a thorough update to you all on our progress. We have developed two kits for the V6 Twin Turbo Ecoboost. The first one is a full stainless steel free flow 4’ system that has a wonderful exhaust note. On this system we are connecting to a 3” outlet converter therefore the first part of the Solo system starts out as 3” and then goes up to 4” for the remainder. All of our 4” mufflers ( we have 3 fantastic ones) did not do the job properly on the very difficult Ecoboost. Our 4” free flow, heavily packed with ceramic fiber and stainless steel wool, Resonator gave us the exhaust note that we wanted but was still off key in some RPM ranges. We meticulously designed and worked out a “J-PIPE” to hook into the front section that took away the remaining troubling sounds that the Twin Turbo V6 produced. The J-Pipe cancels out unwanted frequencies. What’s left is best described internally ( in cabin ) as a deep basey tone that in non-invasive at any RPM range. At cruise it’s like a Lion with a low calm growl and when you step on it the Lion wakes up and roars at a wonderfully deep level. Outside the vehicle it definitely sounds like a well done truck. Deep, low and basey on a steady drive by and wholesomely loud with a definite V8 vibe on hard acceleration. The kit is all mandrel bent and capped off with a T304 polished stainless steel 4 ½” rolled edge and slash cut exiting the passenger side behind the rear tire.
We also have a Dual exhaust kit for the V6 Ecoboost. It is a full 3” mandrel bent stainless steel exhaust kit. The 3” Midpipe Y’s into a dual 2 ½” inlet Solo Mach-X design muffler that of course is a dual outlet as well. Note: the dual 2 ½” is bigger than a single 3”... We have a Dual in Dual out 3” (Mach-X3) muffler that we originally thought would work but it created “bogs” and unpleasant tones. Exhaust works a lot on heat and pressure and when we split the exhaust into dual 3” it was just too much volume and the improper sound was something nobody would want to live with. The 2 ½” mandrel bent tails exit behind the rear tires on about a 40 degree angle and are capped off with our dual 3 ½” outlet, round, staggered, beveled and slash cut tips. They are part # T601-3L and T601-3R on our website at solo-performance.com. As far as the sound both in cabin and out it is extremely similar to the single 4” system that is described above. The only difference other than the looks is that it is slightly louder inside and out. It is deep, mean and definitely an exhaust note that compliments this outstanding truck.
Some comments...
What a terrible natural exhaust note / harmonic that you have to start with. We struggled hard just to get it deep! This truck inherently wants to sound like a poorly done lawnmower when you open up the exhaust flow. Getting this “natural” note to deepen was very difficult and then refining that note to a muscle truck sound at all RPM ranges caused many new grey hairs.
What a joy to drive. The V6 Ecoboost was unbelievable to drive over the 3 days that we had it. So much fun, luxury, power it’s no wonder that they are selling so well. We would play on the highway while just concentrating on the exhaust note and inevitably we would be at 80 – 85 MPH and not even know it.
The community... Thanks so much to Brad for the use of his truck and his patience (it originally wasn’t supposed to take this long) and the Ecoboost community for their knowledge, recommendations, feedback and support. It’s all very much appreciated.
Pics / Video’s
Most pics to date are of prototype systems that of course don’t look as good as the manufactured finished product. We has hours and hours of great video’s under all conditions and they unfortunately did not transfer well in regards to sound. It seems that out video and mic (we have a good mic but not a real high end one) was unable to pick up certain low or deep frequencies. It leaves the current video’s falling very short of the actual sound. We have ordered a higher end mic and it should arrive within 1-2 days.
Manufacturing status
It takes quite a long time to properly jig up these systems for manufacturing. The jigs will be completed by next Thursday and Brad has graciously offered his truck for “final fitment” (we have to check the manufactured product that comes off the jig) on this day. Of course we will also be doing more video’s and pictures of the final product. If all goes well next week we hope to offer a group buy with all the info, pics, and video’s the first week in March. We have to wait for final fitment before we can do our first run of pipes etc. The video will take a bit of time as we try to do a nice job on it for you. We look forward to bringing this to market as quickly as possible! Thanks so much for your interest in our Solo Performance products.
