Is it 12 seconds to start the truck, or 12 seconds to insert the key and turn it?

It's 12 seconds to start the truck. PATS authentication turns off the alarm, only happens on vehicle start.

Well to be clear at least on my 14 I only have to put the key in and turn it to "on" and that will kill it. You don't have to physically start it.

How can it? No signal from FOB. What happens with aftermarket units? if you open the door with just the key? I bet it goes off right?

If you don't use the FOB you are not sending a signal to the brain. The key does nothing but open the lock, nothing electronic there, right? If it did then a screwdriver would turn your alarm off, right?

If you disable that anyone could pick your lock and be in your truck. Wouldn't you want your alarm to be going off then?

Correct, I was mistaken, PATS authentication happens when the key is in the start position. So you do not have to actually start the truck, just move the key to the start position.

Yes, but any self respecting thief that could pick the lock would know that they could just break the window and all would be good.

Since they have the PATS recognition in the ignition switch, you would think that it would also be in the door lock. This is effectively a completely useless "feature" that is incredibly annoying.

Thanks for all of the responses

What happens when you use the key to lock it when you get out? Does it still do it?
