Used 2010 need advice
It has been awhile since I posted. Still haven't bought yet, but still looking. Took a break from looking but now back at it Anyways, stopped by my Ford dealer and they just took in a 2010 Black XLT Screw 4x4. Has everything but back up camera, which I can add later. Truck looks clean and well cared for. I didn't have time to drive it tonight but planning to go back.
The trucks I had been mainly focusing on had been 11 or newer with the 5.0, which I still would prefer, but my budget is pushing me older. From what I can tell on the forum, the 5.4 had issues with spark plugs but that was in the earlier models??, but it might not be a bad idea to work in having the plugs changed if they haven't been. I know that it is a one owner bought there, so hoping it has some records I can see. Anything else I might look out for or check out. Appreciate the advice.
By the way, it is a 2010, 83k on it for $21,900.
Thanks

Personally I would stay clear of the 5.4 The 5.0 is a much better motor.
If you do buy it I would have the dealer install new plugs.

Thank you. I am trying be patient and not get caught up in just getting a truck because it is nice. I know there are alot of used trucks that will be hitting the market over the next year or so, I would suspect.

If you can find a 4.6 I'm happy with mine and everyone I've asked about how their's has held up they all throw out numbers over 200k miles with little to no issues. only problem I have with it is the lack of power, but I am coming from a 5.7 tundra so the comparison is like apples to oranges. By all means if you can swing a 5.0, do it. the coyote motors are just badass.

I hear ya. Its hard to hold back when your mind is set on getting something new. Again, thats just my opinion and there are plenty of guys out there with 5.4's that love them. But If it were me I would wait.

The 2010 5.4 may be more reliable than a 5.0. 5.4 even had MORE power than the 5.0 in the low rpms, so if that's where you drive, then the 5.4 may be for you... If you rev pat 2500-3000 rpms often, then hold out for the 5.0 bc they love to rev and make much more power in the top half of the range. But the 5.0 has oil usage and knocking to watch for.

This will be my first truck. I pull a 3500# pop up camper with my SUV currently and it does ok. Biggest reason for want to move over to a truck is that we just take too much crap with us camping and the SUV fills up and with kids, it would be nice to just be able to put stuff in the bed of a truck. Throw the cooler, wood, bikes, what ever in the back. So I think any of these would do ok and even give me a little room to go up in camper down the road.

I have a buddy with a 2010 5.4L. He has never had an issue with the truck since new as far as I know, he is pretty diligent about maintenance.
As far as power goes, I've driven his truck and compared to my 2013 5.0 it feels slow and lethargic. You can argue that the 5.4L makes more torque sooner in the rev range until you are blue in the face and yes that does make it a good towing motor. But the 5.0 feels modern and stronger than the 5.4 in almost every way.
I'm not knocking the 5.4L, its an iron work horse that has some serious staying power if its well maintained and it does get out of its own way just fine. But it doesn't compare to the 5.0 in my book.
I'd keep looking for a 2011/12 5.0 if I were you.
