Truck looks clean and well cared for. I didn't have time to drive it tonight but planning to go back.

The trucks I had been mainly focusing on had been 11 or newer with the 5.0, which I still would prefer, but my budget is pushing me older. From what I can tell on the forum, the 5.4 had issues with spark plugs but that was in the earlier models??, but it might not be a bad idea to work in having the plugs changed if they haven't been. I know that it is a one owner bought there, so hoping it has some records I can see. Anything else I might look out for or check out. Appreciate the advice.

By the way, it is a 2010, 83k on it for $21,900.

Thanks

Spark plug issue changed in 2008 from the bad ones. IF you buy that truck, see if they will warranty it.

Good luck!

Trust me on this one, will save you a lot of money. Buy the truck you really "want" and can afford within reason. I was in the same boat as you a few years ago. Just keep being patient, save and keep looking for a good deal on the truck you really want instead of buying option #2 because it's in your price range.

I have a 2010 Lariat with the 5.4L motor myself. The Lariat only came with the 5.4 that year.

Way too early to declare victory on it, but I like it so far.

If the truck is what you want, go for it. If not, there a lot of used Ford trucks out there. I prefer buying from a private party, as dealers around here tend to get about 20% more for the same truck. Private sellers can ask silly high prices, but eventually, you will find one that is realistic.

My 2010 5.4 just rolled over 215,000 miles. Never a problem doesn't even use a drop of oil. There are a couple of cases on the Internet of a 5.4 going over a million miles.

It was a spark plug problem, not an engine problem. Maybe get the plugs changed before buying it . I wanted a 5.4 and was sad when the discontinued it. I like my 5.0, but the 5.4 is good I think.

I cant believe nobody has said anything about cam phasers. Roll the windows down and listen for a tap when you start it. Also drive if down the highway for 15 min or so and pull to a stop and see if you hear it tapping. If it goes away over 1500 rpm thats the phasers making noise. Lots of horror storys about phasers on the 3v motors. Bought my 4.6 2010 used and noticed the tapping. Some say they have gotten many thousand miles and are still going after the tapping starts and others report not being so lucky. Just know that has been a big problem with the 3v motors.

Thank you. I will listen for that when I go back. If they still have it by time I get back. This dealer seems to be selling them about as quick as they are getting them. They do have a couple of 2011 I want to look at. One with an Ecobost and one with the 5.0. But they are more money than I think we can afford right now but we'll see. Good thing is I am not in any hurry, just have to not get too excited just to get in one.

My 2010 fx4 has been great to me so far. Over 100000kms now. I'm gonna try the sct w/star tunes soon to wake it up a bit. Good luck. Waiting is never a bad thing

My last 5.4 had 203k and it was expensive to have the plugs changed because of the 2 piece plug used on my 06. I have a 2010 with the 5.4 now and as a previous poster said, the design has changed. I never personally experienced the cam phaser problem, but I only use full synthetic oil. I would have driven that truck across the country the day I sold it and never worried. Every vehicle has its problems, but with proper maintenance, the 5.4 will outlast body.

my son-n-law has 2007 5.4 in his Lariat Screw 4wd with 147k miles no problems. scary changing plugs but none broke at over 100k miles. his Dad has 2010 f250 Screw 4wd with 5.4 with over 250k miles and only problem at 240k miles had to have the a/c repaired. both pull a big tractor, bass boats, and other assorted items so they are not babied. with the 2010 you get the 6 speed tranny, I would not let the 5.4 hold me back.
