Tuners and warranty
I know this subject has been touched on many times but I was wondering if anyone has either confirmed whether or not a tuner will void factory warranty?

Put it back to stock before you go in and will show 100% stock in the computer. Local dealerships can't see a foot print, only a Ford Investigator can and those people are typically only sent out for catastrophic engine failure issues they are investigating.

I've been wanting to get one, but I'm worried about the warranty void as well. A mechanic I know, who has worked at multiple dealers, told me they CAN see if something has been changed. When someone brings up the warranty act, all I can see is my lawyer and myself sitting in a courtroom looking at Ford's TEAM of lawyers. Besides that, it'd cost more to take it that far then what it's worth. I'll just wait till my warranty is up, unless someone can bring undeniable proof to the table. Then I'll think about it.

As long as you stick with a trusted tuner like SCT or Edge, you should be fine as far as failures.
I got mine last year when my truck was a year old. I took it out the first time I dropped my truck off for an oil change (dealer gave me 6 free oil changes) but now I just leave it in there and they don't give me a hard time at all. A few mechanics complimented me on my truck while it was there. I guess it depends on your dealer and your relationship with them. I've bought 2 cars from them within a year and they're good guys so I'm not too worried.

Buyer beware plain and simple. If you go in with your eyes open and something goes horribly wrong and there is a warranty claim is it worth it? Personal decision.
If you are looking for a definitive answer from a forum then you are looking for trouble... .
Make the decision, take the risk and own the decision yourself.
For me, heck no, oh HECK NO. I paid a LOT for my truck. I paid a LOT for my Ford ESP. I'll do nothing to risk that coverage. Especially using a tuner. Not worth the risk for me. To each their own of course.

Buy a second computer. Change it when you return to dealer. There's a way around everything except death.
Well, on second thought, there's a way around that too.

I just broke an axle on my truck last week. It shows right on the work order that they checked my CPU for codes and modifications. Came back clean and I have an SCT bought from Franchi.
I of course set it back to stock first....

To answer your original question, it will not void your warranty unless it can be proved that it directly caused the failure and it will only void that part of the warranty. It's covered under the Magnuson-Moss Act.
ecobeest does raise some questions you need to answer for yourself and that's whether it's worth it to you to take the risk or not.

Ecobeest has it right with his post above.
You can play, but if it fails due to the tuner, expect to pay, and don't expect any of the tuners to back you up in court with Ford or cover damage that their product caused.
