Default Tuners

Hey All! I recently bought a 2013 f-150 with the 5.0 motor and installed a K&N 63-2581 air intake. They say a tune isn't necessary after install, but it's not running any better. Now I'm considering getting a tuner so I can mess around with performance, but I'm wondering what to get that would be in $400. range. I recently rented a 2018 F-150 and it had 4 drive modes: Sport, Eco, Snow, etc. Is that what a tuner would do for me and are they worth spending the money? Thanks!

Hate to tell ya but you wasted your money on that kn garbage, your truck came with CAI and if anything you probably created a HAI as it's now sucking in all that under hood heat. Take that off and go back stock, put it where it belongs, in the trash.

Custom tune will wake your truck up like you wouldn't believe, I bought an SCTx4 and custom tunes from MPT and 5* and WOW what a difference. It's a set it and forget it thing not switchable as the new ones are but MPT makes their custom tunes so that the tow/haul switch acts sort of like sport/touring depending if you turn it on or off.

You could get a SCT X4 for around that cost. The K and N will provide no real performance gain to speak of. The tune will definitely help.

This one goes right in the same intake box, so I don't think it will be any more of a HAI then it was, but I'm not impressed at this point with it doing more than making it louder, but I'll try it for a while before going back to stock. Thankfully, it was on sale and I got it at a "good" price ($150, which is a lot less than the $300 + I see on most of them). My truck is a CPO, still under warranty, will a tune I do affect that? I'm going to the dealer next week to program 2 keys, I could have them do a basic one, then.

If the air box is sealed where it pulls air from inside the fender then yeah it'll be ok. The dealer does not do tuning, you do it your self and you can also program your own keys with Forscan and a laptop. See the sticky at the top of this page.
