Default Transmission troubleshoot

Hi there, I have a 2009 Ford F-150 XLT with the 5.4. I had done a couple things since getting it about a month ago, I changed the axles as it was clunking at low speeds turning, fixed the clunk. And it was still hesitating going from 1st to 2nd gear coming from a stop and coming to a stop it’ll jerk.

I did a diy trans fluid change (dropped the pan and replaced the fluid and filter) put about 9 fluid in. but now it won’t go into any gear. Thought it was the filter but they are identical, the old orange seals for the filter were removed and it looks perfectly flush like the old one did, and when I took the pan off to check, the fluid I just put in was gone so it is circulating. Now at idle I have a power train fault light and engine light (Code P0735 - gear 5 incorrect ratio) I have no idea where to start or how this could have happened by just a simple fluid change ugh.

any thoughts? Thanks for reading!!

Look at the bottom side of the filter. Is the flared hole the same? There are 2 different size filters.

Did you take 9 out? If you mean quarts, that's a lot for a standard quick drain.

Hi, roughly, 7 litres was taken out into the pan and I swear about two quarts was on me and the ground lol. But at first I only put 7 litres in but it was still too low and when I took the pan off the second time all the fluid was gone. So I put some more in cause I thought it was too low and that’s why it wasn’t engaging.

and the filters are the exact same,

also; took the shifter cable out and replaced it, now I couldn’t start it (I’m assuming the truck was in the wrong gear cause I manually put it in park on the trans) now I can’t move my shifter into any gear and the gear select column on the dash is no longer lit up on which gear the truck is in. I swear every time I touch this truck something else goes wrong!

thanks

Well, I would assume you put that cable back incorrectly, then. I've never touched that so I don't have any insight.

I did a complete filter and all cooler lines with a new coil in front of radiator. I added a total of 13 quarts.
Post note. Flying Wrenches on YouTube is another great spot for F150 Vids.

Did you follow the factory service procedure for filling and checking the trans fluid level? You don't have to guess how much to put in, you read the dipstick.

Very expensive for a dipstick. But i will say after having to deal withhot catalytic converter to get accurate reading its well worth it.
