Default Transmission temp?

Yesterday on my way to work after only driving about a quarter mile(in 26 deg weather) my trans temp went very high and stayed there the whole 20 mile trip to work. But when I went to lunch and driving home the trans temp was normal. This morning it was once again 26 deg and trans did the same thing all the way to work. WTF. Anyone else experience this or is it just me?

straight up..... in the middle of the gauge?

Maybe im wrong but i think when mine is at running temp, its always straight up!
I'll double check, but im 99.9% sure. Maybe take a picture, so we can see exactly what temp its running at!

mines usually just left by about a half a hash mark or so of the middle.

mine is to the left of straight up and gets there with in about 5 min of driving

Yes, either the gauge or the sending unit sounds like it might be on the fritz....
