Transmission slipping

I did some searching and couldn't find anybody experiencing this problem and I wanted to run this by all of you before I bring it to the dealer. Today after slowing down for a speed bump I gave the truck a little gas and the truck revved and the transmission didn't engage for a couple seconds. When it finally engaged it was a hard shift. Have any of you experienced this or have any idea what's going on?

Sounds like it got confused on a downshift. I know most trucks are holding third and shifting to first at a stop, skipping 2nd, but if you gas it at the right time it will go into second. Sounds like it couldn't decide first or second, reved and found the gear causing the slam.

Only happen once? I wouldn't worry unless it repeated.

This is the second time...last time was about a month ago. I was reversing out of my driveway, shifted from reverse to drive, and it acted the same way. After putting it in drive I gave it a little gas, the truck revved, and a couple of seconds later the transmission engaged...again it was a hard shift.

My 2010 does it quite often. If you hit a stop light right as it turns green it always feels like it misses a gear and then slams in. It is real quick almost instant. Definitely like a hard shift on a manual.

Same with mine my 2010 did the same thing pretty sure its just my really aggressive driving and the 6 speeds thinking process dont match very well.

I noticed the same thing with my 2013 about a week ago, like mentioned my truck on the down shift skips second gear for the most part. At moderate accelerations it will go through 2nd but if I really hit the gas sometimes it feels like it skips 2nd and does a hard shift into 3rd. I guess its kinda common with these transmissions but I dont know if its really damaging it or not. Take it to dealer see what they say because I was wondering as well if its worth going to the dealer about.

I have the identical problem with my transmission that irishjoe45 described in his 4/7/2013 post my 4x2 2008 shift is delayed and hard when backing out of my driveway form reverse to drive. Happens about 50% or the time. I haven't come across a thread describing any potential diagnosis or solutions. Anybody?

It has happened to me a couple times, today being one of them.

I had that problem and had the reflash of the PCM so the trans starts its learning process all over again and it did the job. I think you could do this by disconnecting the battery??? If not take it in and they will do the reflash!
Forgot to add this was for the hard shift and had nothing to do with slipping as I have never had that happen. On that problem I would check the trans fluid and also check to see when you had it changed. the new models don't require changing the fluid for something like 100,000 miles but the older models are probably around 45,000??? just a guess!

Happens on my '07 with the 4 speed auto, I am to light on the pedal sometimes and the truck computers thinks I am going uphill and downshifts and revs and then returns to the previous gear immediately. Also when suddenly flooring it wrong it sometimes slams a gear hard.

These trucks need to be driven more gently without abrupt accelerator pedal movements, definitely not race cars.
