FIXED!

The issue I was running into was so sporadic that nobody could diagnose it. Well it finally got to the point where my truck wouldn't start at all. I took it to a dealership about 40 minutes from me (the closest dealership SUCKS) and had them look at it. It took them a day and a half to diagnose it because apparently they had to go back and forth with Ford IT Support.

The end result was a bad Lead Frame which is part of the Transmission Range Sensor (I think). The actual writeup said:

"Performed diagnose of no start condition. Found codes for trans range sensor. Performed diagnose flow chart and found faulty lead frame. Removed valve body and replaced lead frame and and installed new filter. Retest Ok."

Total cost: $872.80

So one post made it seem like the battery disconnect helped, but your next reply was a report of getting a lead module replaced. Was it just a short term fix? Little to no help?

I'm now on the fence of waiting for the recall or paying to get it fixed as its giving me a ton of problems right now

A little of both. For a while jimmying around the gear shifter would work...then it didn’t. After that I would turn the key from off to on (just before cranking) and see if the P illuminated. That worked...until it didn’t. Then disconnecting the battery worked for a while. The bottom line is that it’s a computer part and they do funny things as they deteriorate. If you’re having the same problem, I would highly suggest you just fix it and hope that th recall gets expanded. Eventually your truck is going to leave you stranded and that never happens at a convenient time or location.

Well my thought was to try and wait it out to see if the recall gets expanded. If you get it fixed before they recall it, its virtually impossible to get them to cover it and issue a refund.

Of course, as you've said, I'm worried about getting left stranded. It's BS that they have this same issue, on the same year, from the same plant, doing the same thing....and can issue a recall that doesn't cover it. I'm sure you're under the same frustration, as $900 is a chunk of change to cover an $88 part that they admit is faulty.

This weekend I lost my speedometer and odometer, and when it finally went into gear it was in 5th only. Park, Reverse, Neutral all are fine....then directly into 5th.

I know I'm late to the party on this one, but my truck has had same issues for roughly 2 years. Used to randomly happen (enough to deal with it), to now it happens weekly. Just got verified from Ford dealership that it was bad transmission range sensor and lead frame. The only difference between us is my quote... $2150 to fix. They said this included a transmission fluid change, but I feel like that would add $200 at most, not over $1000. Also, any update news on the recall?

There's no recall I'm aware of for this problem other than the reprogramming pcm to latest calibration, Ford did issue an extension of warranty to cover the lead frame up to 10yr/150,000 miles. Field Service Action Number:19N01

I think thats only covering some models. I know my 2014 isn't included yet. Same problems.

See in your signature you are a retired master tech? How recently retired? Change out many lead frames on the f150?

I am asking because I had p0707,p0706 dtc and a no crank no start situation after having some haywire shifting issues while driving down the road.(gear indicator light not showing up on dash)

It was end of work week and I called my dealership, over a 2 week wait to get truck looked at. Spoke with technician at Ford, told him my issues, he figured it was the lead frame assembly without being able to check things over.

I was going to change my tranny fluid and filter soon anyway and had that on hand, so I stopped by the dealership before closing and picked up a new lead frame assembly.

Dropped pan and filter, and valve assembly and replaced the lead frame and pass-through and re-assembled and plugged harness back in.

I am still right where I was prior to changing out the old lead frame. Still no gear indicator on dash, and no crank/no start.

So i guess my questions are have you changed many of these lead frames and come across faulty ones new off the shelf? Or is it more likely I have some other issue? Any help would be appreciated as I am still waiting for appointment to get the truck to dealership.

16 years ago. No experience with the repair except to say I know how to. I can also state with a fact, just because a part is new, does not mean it's good. Defective parts are not uncommon.
