Default transmission blown 2012 V6 Ecoboost

I have a 2012 F-150 V6 Ecoboost, 61,000 miles. Bought used 3 years ago with 40K miles on it. Never gave me any problems and I took it camping two weeks ago. The cabins were on top of a steep hill and near the top it started slipping. Didn't expect the need to shift into 4WD but I did and it made it the last 50 yds to the cabins. Turned it off until it was time to leave 2 days later and it wouldn't shift into gear. No slipping or anything I noticed on the 100 mile drive to the campsite. Got it towed to a Ford dealer and waited for them to get to it later in the week.

Got a call from the service dept 4-5 days later when they were able to get to it. Said the lines going into the transmission were completely corroded and there was fluid all over. Replaced the lines and dipstick, filled with transmission fluid, and drove it around for 10 miles. Called me back and said good to go - $1,100. Truck is 100 miles out of town at this point, so had a relative go and pick it up two days ago. They got about 1 minute into the drive home and it wouldn't shift out of 4th gear. Took it back to the service dept.

They called me back yesterday and said they'd replace the lead frame connector (under warranty) and go from there. Called me today and said that didn't fix it and I need a new transmission (factory rebuilt, 2-yr warranty). Internal clutch and plate damage causing slip and won't let it go into "limp mode" or whatever that is. Said transmission would normally be $5k but they'd do it for $4,300 since I've been without a vehicle for 2 weeks and that it would take another week. Wondering if anyone has had a similar experience and what I should do.

That is a tough spot being so far from home. The 6R80 is now almost 10 years old, $4,600 for a reman is highway robbery. All these trucks would be going to the junkyard for $5k transmissions. I’d go get a quote for a rebuild from a local transmission shop, $3,000-3,500 is fair and a proper price (I would guess). If they come in better pay to tow it there.

I had a similar problem with my 6speed tranny, turned out a wield broke in my torque converter. No symptoms to give me warning,Cost $3200 Cad for them to cut open converter and re-wield it.
