Default Trailer Brake question

What does everybody typically run for gain on their factory trailer brake controllers? I have to run over 8 for both of my new trailers (One is a 14 ft single axle landscape trailer, and the other is our RV travel trailer). Both trailers are 2015's. This seems high to me being both trailers are new. The brakes on both trailers are adjusted properly. I may play around with my landscape trailer to see what it actually takes to lock the wheels up. I'm just concerned that I have to have the gain adjusted almost to the max.

I am running 9 on my tandem axle 5x10 7k dump trailer. If you look at the gain meter on the display when braking normally it really doesn't climb that high. When braking hard is when that higher gain number really comes into play.
