Default Traction Control?

My 2013 Screw 4x4 with the off road package has the two buttons above the radio for "Down Hill" and for "Traction Control".

The downhill is great since I have a 300 yard drive that winds downhill through the woods. If I remember to push the button, it doesn't take any braking to get to the bottom. When you might go down the drive 3 or 4 times a day, you can save a lot on your brakes.

The "Traction Control" button puzzles me. Traction control is always on unless you push the button. What is the advantage of having it off. Do you get better mileage. What is the reason for turning it off.

push it to turn it off, then push it and hold for 8 seconds. this will turn the advace trac off too. basiclly it just allows you to spin your tires and do donuts and stuff like that. it's some fun in the snow. lol

I find traction control to be a pain in the winter...yes winter. It actually slows you down more than it helps.

Traction control is the worst. Also it should only take 5 seconds of holding to turn off the advanced trac. Also it auto turns back on once you hit 35mph even though the light stays on on your dash. Such a joke.

Also assuming this is correct we should upvote it haha

Excerpted from the 2013 F-150 owner's manual ...
USING TRACTION CONTROL

In certain situations (e.g. stuck in snow or mud), turning the traction control off may be beneficial as this allows the wheels to spin with full engine power.
