Yes.

Not seeing if you are in the US or Canada, there are two different answers. gDMJoe is correct that they are required in the US. Canada does not require them, so some manufacturers do not install them. I'm not sure if Ford puts them in Canadian vehicles.

Forum member BassAckwards is very knowledgeable concerning tire pressure sensors and the TPMS in the truck.

In another thread he mentioned that the brass valve on the rubber valve stem is different depending on whether it is a valve stem for a tire pressure sensor, or just a plain valve stem without a sensor attached.

He said the one that DOES NOT have a sensor attached just has threads all the way down to the rubber valve stem.

The one that DOES have the tire pressure sensor attached has a collar at the base of the threads, as you can see in the pictures below.

Here's the valve stem with NO tire pressure sensor:

Here's a valve stem on my truck that has tire pressure sensors, and you can see the collar at the base of the threads:

Here's a picture of the valve stems that have a tire pressure sensor attached to them:

More TPMS valve stem trivia ...
  • the valve cores need to be properly torqued and NOT over-tightened. *Recommendation is 2 - 5 in-lbs | 0.23 - 0.56 Nm
    .
  • the valve stem acts as an antenna to transmit the signal to the receiver.
    .
  • since the valve stem is an antenna, metal valve stem sleeves and caps should NOT be used since they may interfere with the signal transmission.
