Default TPMS 2014 to 2015 up

I know people say they are not compatible but I have a buddy that just put a set of 2017 wheels on his 2013 and he said he has no TPMS light. So my question is....Not being compatible means that they will not work as designed, BUT will not throw a trouble light? I just dont want a dash light or trouble display with them. I could care less if doesn't work as designed.

They are different frequencies, they don't communicate at all. Buddy prob had them switched or hasn't given it enough time to respond, yet.

He definitely didn't switch them because I have his old wheels with the sensors in them, and has run the set up for 500 miles so far. No faults.

According to Motorcraft both the old (2009-2014 - TPMS-12) -AND- the new (2015+ - TPMS-35) ARE the same frequency (315 MHz), HOWEVER ... they cannot be interchanged nor work with/between the generations of F-150s.

Same frequency. Different electronics.

I understand this but will they just not work as designed (light come on when pressure is low?)OR will I have a fault message/light on the dash? I do not care if the sensors work just as long as I do not have fault messages on the dash. My buddy does not have any on his but I do not want to buy a set and have mine come on.
If I had no sensors on my wheels.....would I have a fault message/light, or no?

With no TPMS sensors you would get

*Just as if you had installed your spare (which also does not have a TPMS sensor).
