Default Towing Report

Purchased a 2010 F-150 SCREW, 5.4, 4x4 with a 6.5' bed in June.

First towing run was last week towing my CJ-7 from the front range of CO over to the western slope to the Grand Mesa area. Up and over Floyd Hill, approach to the tunnel, over vail and up to the Grand Mesa - and back.

I flat tow the Jeep, no brakes, so didn't use any trailer braking, just the pickup brakes. Some would say this isn't all that safe, but the pickup handled it well and I had done this run many times before without incident in a lesser vehicle.

The F-150 exceeded my expectations. Had far more power than the Surburban that I replaced it with for pullling it over the mountains. Gearing with the 6speed was a real treat to drive with. The 6spd performed flawlessly.

Used the tow/haul mode and that system made for going down the steep grades a worry free ride. Engine braking worked really well, I found the more I let the pickup drive itself, the better the system worked.

The engineering in these new pickups is phenominal. The abilities of this half ton pickup far exceeds any expectation I ever had of a "half ton pickup". I thought I'd have to step up to a 3/4 ton diesel to get this type of performance. Not so. On the way back, I had a rather large ATV strapped in the bed and it made no difference with the addl weight in the bed. So, have I made it clear that I'm pleased with my new tow rig??

Very cool! I recently drove from Littleton, CO to Rapid City, SD with an enclosed bike trailer. Loaded it up in rapid city with a HD FatBoy and drove through the Black Hills back. Like you I did use tow/haul and experience its towing prowess. I am very impressed. No trailer breaks on my trip either and between accelerating and braking, I could hardly tell the trailer was there.

Good to hear that you are pleased too...........I say too because I towed a 32 foot TT home for 400 miles last week, and my Max Tow F150 performed well too.
Trailer was 7,000 pounds and there were some serious hills. Although it took a downshift or two here or there, I was able to maintain our speed.

Default Towing report too

2010 F150 XLT Chrome, 5.4, towing pkg. Recently towed my 25ft Travel Trailer from Huntsville, AL to Tuscaloosa, AL (3 hrs) and back all on Interstate @ 65 mph. The truck performed flawlessly. Gas mileage was terrible as expected, but the truck never struggled and the stability was excellent. Plenty of power to pass as needed.

I got about 8 and 1/2 or 9 MPG towing my 7K TT ---- what did you get? I guess that is to be expected. I told myself if I got 10 I'd be happy, so this was a little less than I expected....

I have a 2010 SCREW 5.4 Lariat 4X2.I towed my 3500lb car on a flat bed from San Antonio to Dallas and I'd forget it was back there. MPG was about 12 which sucked but I had no trailer sway and the power was more than enough to get the job done.
