Towing for first time with my 09 lariat. Bought hitch mount and ball at uhaul dealer. Jen I'm towing around town, hear a lot of banging coming from the hitch. Especially going over bumps. Hitch mount is 2" like hitch opening but not entirely flush. Is this noise normal for towing or am I missing something.

 

Some universal ball mounts will rattle when inserted into the receiver. They make anti rattle add-ons but as long as you pin and clip are secure rattling is ok. I find it more common when the load on the hitch is lighter.

 

Interesting you day that. Trailer was empty. Loaded now and I hear nothing.

Are there non universal mounts?

 

There's a thread on this. They make some that have little parts that hold them in more snuggly.

The weight probably held the ball mount still.
