Default Tonneau Cover & Peeling Paint

Hi All. This is the 2nd thread I've started, only because I now have a response from Ford.

I have a 2013 XLT with about 29k miles on it. The other day, I got my truck detailed and the shop pointed out that I have peeling paint coming from under my bed rail covers. I promptly called my dealer who said to bring it in, etc...

This morning I brought it in and they took pictures of the damage and sent it to Ford. Ford promptly replied and blamed it on my tonneau cover. They specifically said that my tonneau cover is putting too much pressure on the bed rails which in turn are putting too much pressure on to the paint. This all seems like a load of BS. I have NEVER heard this from anyone and I find it hard to believe. The tonneau in question is the Extang Solid Fold 2.0

I'm extremely frustrated by this...I love my truck, but if I keep it in it's current condition the paint will only continue to get worse...

Has ANYONE ever heard of this before?

I have the same cover for 2 months now and I haven't noticed any issues. Doesn't mean they're not there since I haven't checked.
Its entirely plausible as the pressure applied to the bed caps will cause friction with any movement of the natural uses of the truck (wind, bumps, pot-holes). This will only be multiplied by the down-force exerted by the clamps holding the tonneau cover in place. Of course if you address the issue with Extang, their response will be you tightened the locking nuts too tight on the clamps. So...it doesn't look good for the Home Team.

Agreed. I know for a fact if I took the "add-on" tonneau they offered when I purchased the truck it would be covered. Frustrating is an understatement.

Do some research, find out who makes theirs and see if it is your manufacture!

I admit I don't know anything about the tonneau cover you have(how much it weighs, where it contacts, etc). But yes, in my 15+ years painting in the auto body business, I have seen and repaired situations where heavy tonneau covers, and caps(toppers) weigh on the bed caps and cause rubbing.

Have any pics?

Again, not saying your tonneau is heavy enough to cause it, but just saying it can, and does happen.
