Tired of my ECOBOOST

I am sick and tired of getting 8mpg pulling my 10,000 lbs trailer 80 mph down the interstate. And my tires havent lasted long. Every time I leave a red light, I white smoke my tires. Because of this, my city driving is 10 mpg, and I cant keep a set of rear tires. If I drove a 5.0, it wouldnt be an issue. The only time I get 18+ mpg, is when I drive a "responsible" 65 mph, and that is just not right.

Buy a 2006 FuglyMax and head on over to that forum.

bell4fan 12-06-2011 11:35 PM

HAHAHAHA.....I cant imagine a scenario where I would trade for that year model chevy...diesel or not.

Nickf150fx4 12-06-2011 11:36 PM

LOL seriously though, That's how a lot of people sound on here. They need to tape record themselves then listen to themselves talk

medicff0879 12-06-2011 11:37 PM

Or be that idiot that starts ANOTHER thread in which you are deliberately attempting to start a pissing match? You aren't doing anything new on this move, it has been done before except that the others were intelligent enough to do it in a threat that was already started.

bell4fan 12-06-2011 11:40 PM

I know, I see so many people on here bashing the ecoboost because of fuel mileage. I guess its Ford's fault in some ways, because they did market it as a gas sippin economical truck. I was going to try and combine everyone's "gripes" into one smart ***** paragraph but couldnt think of all the excuses.

medicff0879 12-06-2011 11:43 PM

Well, with all hope it will get locked soon.

I'm watching 24 on Netflix and working on a concert program for school. What's everyone else doing?

LOL, I think my favorite season is the one where they actually pull off detonating the nuke in Cali. To bad they go back to all the Jack Bauer stuff after and lose track of just what a cluster f**k that would create.

Shoot naw man!! 24 is set in REAL TIME action in which Jack Bauer (along with the help of Clowie) single handedly puts the beat down on any choice of domestic or international terrorists that wish to do harm to Amercans living in California!!

He even takes the a** whoopin to Africa in the 2hr Redemption show that aired prior to the last aired season!!

No, seemed like a good series, but it aired shortly before I left to go overseas. After I returned I just never got back into it again? Maybe I should start adding that to my Blockbuster queue and spend half a year, or so, catching up LOL!?? Hell, I didn't realize they were pulling the plug on it?

MT-Ford 12-07-2011 12:13 AM

Not a ecoboost fan but damm towing 10,000lb @ 80mph = bad mpg. And of course most vehicles will not get the advertised mpg.

I am biting my lip, and as a Virgo who likes to have the last word all the time, am not going to reply to the stupidity and close-mindedness of a few on here. Look back over my 220 posts. The first 200 were all positive regarding F150 until I made the move to an Ecoboost. Yes, I understand that was my experience, and maybe not everyone's. I accept that. But at the same time, those of you who started this thread could actually be the reason I'm leaving this behind me. Are you any better?

I simply put too much faith in the advertisments and claims by Ford. Yes it will pull 11,300 lbs, skid logs up a mountain, tow trailers up a grade and pass chevy and dodge, not once mentioning what kind of economy it was getting while doing that. I have to tow with my work. I have to pay for my own fuel in doing so. I thought buying the Ecoboost would give me a cheaper operating cost than my diesels. The Ecoboost would not do it so I have gone back to what I knew did the job.

If Ecoboost is so great why is it also failing in the Ford Explorer? Motor Trend and Car&Driver have tested it and it is also a HUGE lemon. Ford had better rethink ECOboost marketing.

Enjoy your forced induction direct injection gasoline fueled V6's.

You do realise the Explorer has a 4 cylinder in it not the V-6 that the F-150's have.I don't think the 4 cylinder EcoBoost in the Explorer is a good idea because the Explorer is to heavy. Also i bet the EcoBoost got no worse mileage towing then the Chevy,Dodge and Toyota but had more power doing it.So IMO if it got the same mileage as the others towing but had more power where's the down side.I bet if Ford would have used the V-6 EcoBoost in the Explorer it would have got better reviews.

Later Mark.

Just built an AR and got into coyote hunting. Its addicting.

To continue the hijack: I love the Walking Dead.
My favourite memory is this: My wife watching the Pilot episode via iPad while on an airplane. Cue the especially graphic scene where a zombie child gets popped. The older lady sitting on her other side had eyes like this:eek: and her hand clutched her chest.

I shouldn't think that was funny... but I did

The Walking Dead is a super good show!! To the one watching "The Pacific," and "Band of Brothers" those to are awesome shows!! Tell you what, some of the horrors they witnessed, and were subjected to, I'm surprised many of our grandfathers/great-grandfathers didn't come home 10x more f**ked up in the head than those of us that spent time in A-stan or Iraq did!!??

War is hell, but it seems with our modern advancements in protection and weaponary, that war has "softened up" in a sense, to what it was in the Vietnam era, backwards!! I will even go so far as to say that war is not as gruesome today? NOW, with that said, I did see some effed up stuff in A-stan, and a 103mm Chinese rocket can/will mess a person up pretty bad, not to mention the IED's those pieces of fowl maneuer tend to use!! So don't think I am downlplaying our war effort over there by any means LOL!!

I agree, unfortuntately I will be driving mine until I can get out of it down the road. Only time will tell if my decision to go with Ford will be a good one or not? I'm not brand loyal per say, and tend to look for the features/power/performance that fit into the category I was looking for at that time? In this case, I to, fell for the BS marketing of Ford, and with my recent experience at the service dept. for a completely unrelated thing I just don't know how I feel about my decision overall anymore LOL!!??

nathan_nathaniel 12-07-2011 09:21 AM

I don't see Ford getting out of the EcoBoost business anytime soon. The vast majority of buyers are happy. Ford is also continuing to develop ecoboost technology in other motors. The inside scoop around Ford is that an EcoBoost 5.0 is now in the works. hp is in the 500 range.

You really need to move up to a duelly with twin exhausts out the bed behind the cab and pay a fat gas hog tax too. I mean 80 mph pulling a 10,000 lb. trailer is a death wish for everyone around you during the day on the Boulevard.

Once again: how the heck does any sane person believe any gas engine truck is a fuel saver while towing vs. a diesel?
If you have a business and tow for a living WTF were you doing even looking at a gas engine?
Oh, that's right, cheep....

+1 There is no such thing as a prius truck. The ecoboost trucks will get decent gas mileage, especially for the power they are capable of producing. Look at the MPGs of a 5.0 or 6.2 when towing and you'll see that they do the same thing.

I can't beleive that no one mentioned "Justified" with Raylan Givens on FX. Season 3 starts january 17 2012

JRTJH 12-07-2011 11:41 AM

F150 EB: 1000 miles towing @ 10 MPG = 100 gal @ 3.27 = $327
1000 miles solo @ 18 MPG = 55.5 gal @ 3.27 = $181

Total combined 2000 miles fuel cost = $508

F250 TD: 1000 miles towing @ 16mpg = 62.5 gal @ 4.20 = $262
1000 miles solo @ 18mpg = 55.5 gal @ 4.20 = $233

Total combined 2000 miles fuel cost = $495

On fuel alone, savings of $13.

Now add increased maintenance cost for diesel, increased registration costs, etc. and it pretty much becomes a wash on which is more expensive. So, if EB makes you happy, drive one. If Diesel makes you happy, drive one.

Life's too short to fight over "mine is better than yours" on things like this.

Whats an ecoboost post without a jab at the 5.0? But I assure you, if you see me in a duramax, please call the police. I am being kidnapped!!! hahaha

My wife keeps the Telly on HGTV 24/7 so I just surf the web and watch YouTube.

I'm definitely getting the better end of the deal. Since my cat and I both spend time doing this while eating, it's become my own little cess pit.

HGTV= some poor bastid nearly tearing down his house, spending one hundred grand putting it back together again only to wind up about where he started....

ElGordoTejano 12-07-2011 03:34 PM

Not too sure about this, but it don't matter if it's a eco or not, you slam on that gas pedal and your gonna see results both ways.

1. It's going to haul ass
2. It's going to eat up gas

I get an average now between 19 and 24mpg. For the most part it settles at 21 and that's driving at 70. I can't vouch for towing though. But the numbers seem to be right on target. 10k towing at 8mpg. I think that's about right. I have heard others do just about that.

You don't suppose slamming on that gas pedal and all that smoke in the rear got anything to do with those darn tires not lasting much do ya?

ROFL!

Because of this, my city driving is 10 mpg, and I cant keep a set of rear tires. If I drove a 5.0, it wouldnt be an issue. The only time I get 18+ mpg, is when I drive a "responsible" 65 mph, and that is just not right.

:boxing:

Sounds like operator error to me, a 5.0 would not be any better. Hope you find something you like

I just watched the video for Justin Moore's Bait a Hook and noticed a black F150 Platinum EcoBoost in it... pretty sweet!

We recently watched the first season of The Walking Dead (AMC) on Netflix. It is a great series. Can't wait to watch season 2 on AMC.

Work is adamant on using gmc 3/4 6l gas trucks to pull their 10000lb trailer. Sure it can do it but you can definitely tell you're pulling more than it feels like you should be. It floors me when people think they can buy a gas engine, big or little, to pull a heavy trailer and still get good fuel economy. It's not going to happen, doesn't matter what brand of truck.

If you're pulling close to max rating, forget about mileage. It's not the eco-boost's fault.

Frosstyx 12-07-2011 11:19 PM

There aren't really any turbos on our trucks, Ford just has Chuck Norris pee on one of the tires before it leaves the factory, the truck becomes one with the Norris..that wine you hear when you hit the throttle is the truck channeling the Norris...I have said too much...

(Thats right, this thread is being re-re-re-re-hijacked!)

I know I am late to the party, but I have to ask... Who the F#$K buys an F150 to pull a 10k pound trailer? Sure it says it can do it and obviously it does, but to expect an advertised MPG... F'ing Moron...

On a side note SOA rules! Best show ever! and I am with the panda, I like my Eco.

The Boogie Man checks his closet at night for Chuck Norris.

Chuck Norris checks his closet for Jack Bauer.

Since no one pointed this out I will. You mentioned the poor performance of the Explorer Ecoboost but didn't clarify that it was a puny 4 cylinder motor, not the 3.5 V6 in the F150. Ford makes several motors with the Ecoboost namesake.

Well anybody who really believes what companies advertise needs to get a grip.
I have never owned a vehicle that got the stickered EPA rating.....never!
Why on earth would I expect it now?
I take 20% off the EPA rating and that's usually about what my vehicles will get up here.
As far as I am concerned Ford delivered on the EB.
Great towing, easy driving, very powerful and thankfully in my case pretty good mpg for a 4x4 1/2 ton.

Dennis Leary don't lie.

Unloaded on a flat stretch of highway with no wind crusing at 70mph I can get 21ish mpg.

And for the sidetrack.... My brother sent me this link. Never watched the show but it looks pretty good.

I think most here, who are reasonable and mature, would agree with your opine. ;)
