Default Tire size recommendations

Hello,
New to this forum.....seems to be a ton of great info. Recently bought a new to me 2009 F150 SuperCab XLT 4x4 Certified Pre Owned! The wife and I are very happy with it.

It has the stock P234/75R17 Hankook black wall tires (on stock 17x7.5 J rims), and would like to get a new set soon. I was thinking on going with the Firestone Destination AT or Michelin ATX A/T 2, as they seem to have great reviews from others. My main concerns are they keep the truck quiet, great handling and perform well in snow, rain and dry conditions. I was contemplating white raised letters, as the truck's color is that Blue Metalic Flame color, and that may look good (I will have to look at other pics here to see both the raised white letters and blackwalls). We don't need to have serious off-road capabilities, and would like to investigate going a bit larger on the tire as the stock Hankooks appear to get lost in the wheel wells.

Any suggestions or recommendations?

Thanks,
fordman1264

I would give BFG A/T's a look. IMO the best A/T tire out there.

Punishher,
I will look into those BFG's, thanks. How about size - I am currently running P235/75R17 w/ 17x7.5J rim. What size (or range or sizes) could I go up to without getting complicated with speedometer issues and lifting the truck?

Thx,

You can fit 33s without issues. The dealer or someone with a programmer can redo your speedo in a few minutes. You can use this to compare tires sizes and speed differences:http://www.1010tires.com/TireSizeCal...?action=submit

Default Some more questions....

Ok, I have decided on going with Firestone Destination A/T's in P265/70R17, blackwall out (2009 F150 XLT SuperCab, not lifted or leveled).

I do have a few questions to ask those who have done this before me:

(coming from P235/75R17 and going to P265/70R17......)

1. What, if any mpg decrease will I notice?
2. Will I need to have the dealer reprogram anything?
a. If so, what have others paid at the dealer?
3. Any driving/operational characteristics affected? (rubbing, abs, tpms, etc.?)
4. If you have any pictures of the 265's on your truck, please show me.

Thanks to all who answer, as I love my truck and want to be as diligent when making mods and changes so as not to waste money or adversely affect my safety.

(p.s. - I am finalizing a home made wooden frame for the bed that will hold Rubbermaid style bins in place so they wont move around or tip over while traveling........pics of that to follow in a few days....)
