Default Tire Choices

Hello all-

I've been in the market for new tires and narrowed it down to a few. I realize they are all kind of different (AT, MT, XL) but these are what I'm down to now. Tire size will be 305/55 r20, or 33 x 12.5 R20
  • Toyo MT -$362 (72 lbs)
  • Toyo AT -$320 (roughly) (62 lbs)
  • Nitto Terra Grap XL -Waiting on Quote (50 lbs)
  • Falken Wildpeak AT3 $259 (71 lbs)

The things I like about the Nitto AT, Toyo AT, and Falcon AT's are mileage warranty's (65k, 65k, 55k, respectively). I've also heard great things about the Falcons lately.

I have always been a fan of the Toyo MT's, which are why they are in consideration.

I drive a lot, almost exclusively highway, about 25k a year. I realize the Toyo MT isn't made for this.. just like the looks and heard it's durable. I do have to deal with snow and pulling a snowmobile trailer, so that needs to be taken into consideration.

The ones I've eliminated (so please don't recommend..) BFK KO2, Nitto Ridge Grappler, Nitto Trail Grappler.

Looking for some opinions on the listed options! Thank you very much

Side note- Forgot to add Toyo RT (45k warranty, 69 lbs) to my considerations. That will be quoted as well. The place I'm getting the tires from has better pricing with Toyo than Nitto, which is why the Ridge and Trail grapps have been eliminated.

I paid $292 each for cooper discoverer atp's in 305/55r20. Total came in at $1320 at discounttire.com, shipping included.

Weighs less than what you've posted, is priced cheaper than a couple you listed. I've only had them on a couple of weeks but I love them. Quiet but I can still hear a hum.

The Toyo AT2 is hard to beat for an all purpose / all terrain tire. I've had a couple sets of MT's over the years as well and they're a great mud tire, but fairly noisy and the pavement life is poor.

I have Toyo AT's in 305/55/20 and drive 20k miles or more a year. I personally will not buy them again and will probably go with the Falkens next time around for a couple reasons.

So far they have worn great and the sound isn't too bad. I've got about 28k on them so far. The price was a big hard to swallow but I thought I was getting a great tire with the Toyo. They are great on every surface and environment unless that surface is wet. You have no chance in hell of getting traction in wet weather. With a tuned EB like mine, I can barely leave a stoplight without setting on traction control. They just are NOT wet weather tires.

I have done a lot of reading on the Falken's and they seem to be the next option for me. For the price and ratings, they seem to be pretty hard to beat. Yes they have a 10k less mileage warranty than the Toyo's but as these wear down, it makes me more and more concerned about the wet weather.

Right now I'm leaning towards the Falcons still.

Toyo AT's came back at $340/tire
Terra Graps at $330

I'm going to check on the price of the Coopers when I call back later today but it seems like the reviews on Falcons have been very high and they are also severe snow rated, which is a plus. The shop also mentioned that they have seen great results with the Falcons wearing well and lasting high miles. They said the Terra graps have very inconsistent results (which I've read about). Apparently Toyo ATs are their highest seller but the Falcons are quickly gaining popularity among their customers.
