Default Thinking of upgrading from 05 to a 12-14. Advice?

I have a 05 Screw FX4 with 88K miles. I love it, but thinking of something newer. My 05 is starting to get some cab corner rust coming out. I was wanting something newer, with lower miles, and more bells and whistles. For those of you who have done this---would you do it over again? Any insight on the 09-14 model line up? I love the FX4, so I will probably go with another.

Thanks,

Dave

I had an 06 XLT and loved it. Had a few other vehicles in between before I got my 13 XLT.
I love this one even more. While the build quality was great in the older pickup, I feel that it's gone up even more in my 13. The 5.0 with 6 speed auto is way more economical and powerful than the 5.4 I had with the 4 speed. I have a super crew with the bigger bed, and typically load it down pretty heavy and it never lets me down. Never feels like a slug, which the 5.4 would do.

I had an 05 screw with the 5.4. Great truck. Got an ecoboost and the extra power plus 6 speed transmission is amazing. 2-3 seconds faster to 60 and the ability to tow up a medium grade without shifting down is terrific. Plus the cab is larger. Oh mog is way better on the new trucks also.

Really no downside

I'd go 11-14 so you can get a 5.0 or an ecoboost. They made a few minor changes to the ecoboost in 2013 so it might be worth considering that if that's the motor you're looking at although there are some on here with a 11/12 eco with no issues.

Great feedback. I was leaning towards a 13-14 with low miles. I've read plenty of threads/opinions on here about differences of Eco and 5.0. One thing I don't understand is the Interior level. Such as people have a L/213 interior???? I tried to search and couldn't find of list. I assume the higher the number the more options? Please correct me if I'm wrong.

That is a link to the brochure, which lists the available packages for each trim level, 101 for XL up to the 801 for the Raptor. Shows what comes standard and what is in each. The window sticker site used to work, which would allow you to take the VIN numbers from the listings online and paste them into the program, showing you the window sticker and each option that the truck is equipped with. Good luck, lots of great changes to these trucks in this generation. 5.0/Eco and don't forget the 6.2!

I had an 06 Lincoln Mark LT. As other have said, the 6 speed is so much better than the 4 speed in the older years. You can always find a good shift point. Also, the 6.2 is an option as well in the years you are thinking about.

You're going to pay about as much for a used 13-14 with low miles as you will a new 15-16.

Default Thinking of upgrading from 05 to a 12-14. Advice?

I went from an 2005 fx4 with the 5.4 to a 14 fx4 5.0. I loved my 05 and it really was a good truck to me. Always got me home.
Once I drove the new one, the 05 became a nice memory. The power, smoothness, and everything overall is night and day. The biggest thing for me was actually the telescoping steering wheel and the seats
The 05's fx4 seats had hard seat bottoms and the steering wheel was just a little too far away.
Now I'm perfectly comfortable.
I actually had a 2010 fx4 with the 5.4 mated to the 6 speed. That changed that engines power big time. It wasn't the truck for me so I only had it for 6 months. Plus I thought I could live without a sunroof. I can't...I'm addicted to an open roof. I even missed just having the light coming in. That's just me though.
