Tailgate Screws
Can anybody help me find the part number for the tailgate screws that fasten the plastic cover? I purchased a set online, but the shank on them is a little narrower and longer than the original and the threads are different.
The original is on the right.

Thanks, but those look like the ones I purchased already. The ones that came on the truck are the ones with the shorter and wider shank, to the right in the picture.

The ones that you have may be (?) after-market (e.g. dealer or previous owner installed), especially since the off-the-assembly-line holes are self-tapping. In that case, check the bolts/screws/fasteners section at your local friendly auto parts suppler (e.g. NAPA).

How's she goin' eh?
I’m not sure if it’s the same on the f150 but on my ranger I had the plastic tailgate cover with one screw (possibly your one on the right) then when I had it line-x’d, I had to get new screws to sit flush (on the left).
they both might be the proper screw but one is for one application and the other is for the other.

The threads on the tailgate failed on mine, not the bolts, I had to tap (re-thread) next size up.
I went to the hardware store and bought what I needed.
Poor metal quality. (Cheap). I expect this from Ford these days.
Drove my 1995 f-150 for 15 yrs, nothing wore out but the brakes. My 2013 back wheels may lockup at any time. Numerous problems.
oh, I forgot, I did have to replace the fan belt idler at the 10 yr mark, $15 bucks and 15 mins time.

I have literally thrown dozens of those away. Myself and a few friends that have the tailgate step hated the plastic liner on the inside of the tailgate. We removed it and purchased the panel for a Non-Stepped tailgate and then had the tailgate Line-X'ed. The sheetmetal on the inside of the tailgate is super thin. I would suggest suggest either going to a bigger bolt or getting some Rivet Nuts and using button head bolt and washer.

Those screws kept coming out. I replaced all of them with the plastic push in fasteners that hold on the interior trim or the fender stone guards. Been in there for years and haven't lost one yet.
