So got the cooler out the back of the truck when i got home today shut the tailgate amd this happened.......... anyone else???

Well seeing as it is the side that it is the side for the tailgate to lift up so you can remove it.. I could see it happening, I know this first couple of times I removed my tailgate that it slide up and off way to easy..
If it a problem I believe there is a lock you can buy that goes around there to keep it connected, or put a hose clamp around it.

Common. All trucks have removable tailgates. I've had this happen on every truck I've owned, at least once. I was shutting my tailgate about 2 months ago and this happened.

 

Ive had it do it when theres bark or other crap stuck in the gap.

 

happens to me all the time, both on the ford and chevy more on the chevy cause the gate is liter
