Default Tachometer issue

So I just joined the forum on 7-27-20 ( yes I introduced myself in the introduction thread) and I already need help. I'll try to comment in an attempt to help others but I'm probably going to be that guy who doesn't offer much and ask the experts for advise. So I picked up my new to me 2009 4.6L 3.0V xlt truck today and the tachometer doesn't work. I knew it didn't work before purchase but after the test drive and inspection couldn't turn her down. The tach is stuck at roughly 250 while running or off. Just irritating me more than anything and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions to a cheap or quick fix? Thank you in advance.

Sounds like you need a new cluster. Although it should be diagnosed first.

Thanks for the reply. I was thinking that. I read a thread on here about a gauge sweep and was hoping could be that simple.

There's a diagnostic or engineering mode you can get to. Trucks have different methods, you'll have to search for yours.
