I have what I assume is sync mytouch. The Bluetooth disconnected and will not show a pass key to reconnect. I’ve tried the fuse pull and battery disconnect but no avail. The usb and micro jack also do not work. The climate controls are done via the screen.
what are my options? Can I buy an 8” screen and sync2 APIM and swap it with ease? If I went aftermarket, I’d like Bluetooth, nav, reverse camera (have now). What would be entailed being the climate control functions are built into the sync system?
No, it is not easy to upgrade Sync1 to Sync2 or 3. You'd have to replace several other modules, no doubt at high Ford prices. Aftermarket is almost universally recommended for Sync1 trucks.
With all the symptoms you mention, that does sound like your APIM has a problem. Or maybe ACM, I'm not sure how your year works.

being my “radio” controls my climate controls, do they make an aftermarket head that is compatible? Or do i/can I get a different bezel with manual ***** to retain climate controls and a simple double din deck?

Yes, they make compatible head units. You'll be looking at iDataLink Maestro and any compatible head unit from Alpine, Kenwood, etc, etc.
There's a couple threads on here that talk about it... I'll see if I can dig one up.
Id appreciate that because I’m lost when it comes to all this stuff. Tried doing a search but couldn’t find what I needed
Here... check this thread out. This is what you'll need to do if you go aftermarket. There's a bunch of compatible head units with the Maestro unit(s), and they have excellent customer support. If you're not good at this sort of thing as you said, you might be better off just giving them a call directly and seeing what options you have for your specific truck.
