Sync port with ipad mini
I have a 2012 F150 XLT with sync. I've been plugging my iPad mini with retina display in and it works great as far as function goes and audio plays great, stereo controls work perfect. But, my iPad states "not charging" at the top. Anyone have the same issue? Or a fix? I'm working on a fabricated dash mount for it but am worried that I'm going to have to continually charge separate to and swap usb on it. I know I could use the Audio over Bluetooth, but I'd rather have my phone on Bluetooth for hands free calling. Thanks in advance.
The iPad needs a 2.4 amp usb in order to charge. The usb on the f150 is only rated 1.3 amp I believe (or whatever the normal rating is), so it will not charge the iPad. You should see the same issue with trying to connect the iPad to the usb on the computer. It will state it is not charging. You can find 2.4 amp usb chargers on Amazon but the typically require either a cigarette lighter connection or a 12v connection. Not sure if they make one that would give you the 12v booster with a USB connection so you could get the power needed to charge it as well as still connect it to the USB sync system.
However with my iPad mini and F150 I just unplug the USB when the iPad is low on juice and plug it into my 12v lighter port where I have a combo iPad/iphone usb charger plugged in! While its charging I just listen to the radio...
