I've been on the fence about trading in my 09 Supercab, with the 4.6l 3V, for a 2011 super crew with a 3.7. My kids are getting bigger, so I'm in need of a little more passenger room. I don't tow much, or haul anything real heavy, so I really don't need the Eco or 5.0.
Has anyone else made this switch? If so, did you notice a huge difference between the two motors?

Politically incorrect
I own a 10 SCrew with the 4.6 3v. I test drove a new 3.7 but it didn't feel nearly as powerful as my 4.6 despite the higher horsepower rating. (There was a bit of bias though since I drove the EB just before.) It just felt like I had to hammer the 3.7 to get it to move.

I had a '09 XLT 4.6L V3 for a little more than 2 years. I recently upgraded to a '11 FX2 Ecoboost, so this comparison probably isn't exactly what you're looking for but in the ball park.
For me - the new Ecoboost engine is WAY smoother and nicer than the older setup in the '09.

I just went from a 2009 4x2 Supercrew XLT 4.6 3V, into a 2011 4x4 Supercrew XLT 5.0!
I really wanted a 4x4 is the main reason, and the 5.0L added some temptation.
But seriously, I traded a nice truck that had "0" issues and 32000km, to a new 2011, that already has TSB for a timing chain tensioner! Simple enough repair, but it had 800km on it when I noticed the problem, and FORD is already so behind replacing these things in 2011 5.0L, they dont know when mine will arrive! On top of that, I have already noticed minor issues with the transmission too, which is another major problem with the 2011.
Just saying...

I suggest that you take your truck to the dealer and test drive the 3.7, let your feel for the truck and the options do the talking. You may find that you are completely satisfied with your current truck or maybe you'll find the 3.7 right for you. Either way, good luck.

I'd wait for the 2012 as most of the first year bugs should be worked out.
