Default Surprise...not so much I'm pretty upset!

So today I'm washing my truck and go to dry it and bam there it is. Big chunk of paint missing on the passenger side pillar. No rust no damage to that area, just missing paint. I'm pretty upset because my truck is spotless minus this now. Every time I walk by it that's all I notice. Anyone else seen this or had this problem? It's a 2012 well maintained with 73k on it.

Ouch, that hurts. Sorry.
I have not seen that, but similar on the bed side caps (plastic)
On the bright side, should be an easy fix.

There have been a lot of paint issues with our trucks. Nothing we can do but have those areas repaired by paint shops.

It's little things like this that pi$$ me off about Ford.I've had 3 trucks in the last 17 years. 1 Toyota, 1 Honda and 1Ford. I bought them all new and the Ford is a 2014 Lariat screw. I've had more problems with Ford than the Toyota and Honda combined.

Back on topic it looks like a trip to Carsmedic is in order.

Now just another thing for me to worry about lol. Not a bad spot for it to happen IMO, not a lot of paint work required because it doesn't have to be blended to surrounding areas.

Well I just looked and found I don't have the oe glass. It was replaced by safeguard prior to me buying it. That explains why I'm having this issue. I touched it up with factory paint and tomorrow I'm going to wet sand and see how it comes out. If not livable I'll head to a body shop I guess

Did you buy your truck new or used?

Judging by the windshield comment, I'm going to guess used. Is it possible that there was some body damage to the truck and the paint repair was done sub-par? You simply cannot beat the factory primer/paint application for most OEMs. Body shops cannot come close to paint adhesion (ok, except the purple dodge neon fiasco, that was bad).

I suspect there was something that damaged the A Pillar that also cracked the windshield by a previous owner. Work was done and the body shop didn't do a great job prepping the surface properly.

Should be easy to see if there is any body filler in that area by using a magnet and checking the adhesion there vs nearby areas/opposite side of windshield.
