I hate how tall the factory antenna is, but it has saved me numerous times from going too far into a parking garage that had low beams. The factory antenna is just high enough over the roof that if it scrapes, I know I shouldn't be going in the garage.

However, for your question, I have yet to find a stubby antenna that gets reception well enough for my needs.

I had a 13" rubber coated one & it ended up cracking at the base. (Don't think there was any negligence)... so I opted for a black Stainless steel one & have NO issues or radio reception loss.
It looks OEM, but just shorter.

Have a '16 now, but on my '14 I literally went to AutoZone and got there black billet stubby for $9.99. Can't remember the name but it's in a red package with clear plastic front.

Made it about 13 months with no wear, good reception(I have a few stations pretty close by, but never felt like I lost a ton of reception on further stations either).

It finally started flaking and I unscrewed it, hit it with some black rattlecan stuck it back on for a few more months. At $10 I can afford to buy a new one ever few years. Or let it peel, it did have a cool greenish hue to it underneath

Clip your antenna, its easy.

Remove the antenna and heat up the end. Remove the tip and clip the antenna to length. Clean up the end and reinstall the tip. You can use solder or any other adhesive. Spray paint the end and your gtg.

I put a Stubby on mine, reception sucked, but didn't matter, never used it.

Someone stole it (4th theft of stuff on/in my truck... and that's after I removed the entire aftermarket sound system and make sure nothing but fast food napkins are in the truck when I get out every night.

Now I have a 13" universal rubber antenna from O'Reilly. It works, I can get radio stations out of Austin all the way into Salado going north, and Waco stations as far as Georgetown going south on IH35, so it's just as good as the factory antenna.

I have a stubby as well and really like it. I have no trouble getting reception and HD radio but I live in the suburbs of St. Louis.

I trimmed about 4" off my antenna. Now it clears my garage, but is still just taller than the truck. I already struggle with one station I like since it is weak, don't need to worsen my side, too.

I wasn't sure how to get the tiny ball off the top, so I just soldered my own with a cap nut.

I think those 3-4" antennas are ugly. I may be the only one that does.

Does it still work good if you cut it off? I only need to cut off maybe 2" max so that seems like a good idea.
