Default Stolen Tailgates?

Hi everyone,

This note just came out from our sheriff. I guess the thieves want the scrap?

Message: The Ottawa County Sheriff's Office is investigating two recent incidents where tailgates to Ford trucks have been stolen. Both incidents occurred in the area of River Street within the City of Coopersville. Members of the community are being asked to report any observed suspicious activity. If you have information to report that could help lead to an arrest in this criminal matter, please contact Ottawa County Dispatch at 1-800-249-0911 or silent observer @ 1-877-88-74536 or mosotips.com

i keep mine locked at all times. masterlock makes a lock that goes over the pin where the tail gate slides out. people have also used zipties, anc pipe clamps to put over as well.

Not really a problem specific to Ford, all the tail gates are worth big coin. I pinched a kid one night who was trying to steal one from a dealer lot after he backed his dad's truck into something. He was trying to find a fast, easy, late-night fix before he brought daddy's truck home. Another guy I know stopped a weasel that was stealing them to eventually sell to body shops; he had been travelling to different areas every night and snagging like 5 or 6 a night.

So everyone from 17 year old dumb asses to "organized crime" (using the term loosely) are involved in swiping them. I lock mine all the time now.

On a side note, lock your doors. Aside from the obvious GPS, wallets, loose change, and sunglasses stolen from unlocked cars, I've also seen thefts of alternators, batteries, starters by people who popped the hood after gaining access to an unlocked vehicle. Just cause you live "in the country" doesn't mean you're immune from crime. This is where people go to steal **** from vehicles because for the most part, its easy pickings.
