Default Stereo issuse

hey guys I need some advice I don’t have much experience working on vehicles and don’t wanna take my truck to the shop. I’m having issues with my sounds system… sometimes when I’m listening to music I can’t control volume or switch cds or stations none of the buttons will work. It’s completely random sometimes if I turn off the truck it will fix it but other times it won’t and it’s becoming fusterating to me.
Now my power to the climate controls work but the upper dash doesn’t the screen works but none of the buttons.

on another note I have a 2010 f150 xlt, stearing wheel is beat up and only has cruse control options/buttons, would I be able to swap steering wheels with the newer 2012/13 model with the cruse control and sounds system controls ? Would I have to do some rewiring?

thanks I’m new to working on my truck but I wanna learn!

It's hard to say, but it sounds like you have some electrical issues. Especially if the problems are intermittent; as you stated.
Unfortunately, it's difficult to suggest anything without more information.
I would start by pulling out the stereo/climate area and checking wiring. A loose connection or connector; a wire just about to come loose, a broken wire, etc.
It will require some electrical testing to further narrow down.
I would also hook a scanner to the vehicle and scan for any trouble codes.

I'm not sure about the steering wheel.
If your current trucks wiring does not already support the buttons for stereo from the steering wheel; then replacing the wheel will not work for controlling the stereo.
I would research what the connection for stereo to the steering wheel looks like; where it resides; then check my vehicle and see if I also have that connection.
