Default Stereo head unit questions please help.

I just bought a 2011 F150 XLT with the factory stereo and sync. I want to put a dvd deck in it but retain the steering wheel controls and sync. What happends to the display on the top of the dash that displays the factory radio info? I know someone out there has done this already. I just want to know the right way to do it. I dont want it half assed.

There are several options, one if the easiest is getting an Alpine or Kenwood with maistro cables, this will be plug and okay and will allow you to keep sync and SW controls.

Another option is finding the right harness' and add them for HU and SW controls. Adds more complexity as you need to solder and heat shrink connections but it's way cheaper.

The little screen will display so thing full time, I have "Built Ford Tough" on mine but others report they have the DVD lit up.

You will have to buy those cables after the fact and will have to check to see if the maistro cable is comparable with that model.

They do now. After the latest update you can use Pioneer NEX model to retain Sync and put info/clock on top display. However, if you are trying to use car play, you should choose not to retain Sync when you flash Maestro on the web and install the Pioneer microphone. In all cases, to retain Sync, you need a compatible radio, not just any radio - See here: http://maestro.idatalink.com/compatible-radios/

Can I ask why you made this comment? Would like to understand/help if possible.

I installed the Advent HU. There is a thread on this unit. PNP install. Works and sounds great. Has touch screen, GPS, SAT, CD/DVD, AM/FM, backup camera, USB. Steering wheel controls and Sync functions all work.

What model Kenwood and did you install it with the Maestro RR module?
