I had this issue and posted earlyier. Im reporting back that it must be cold related. My issue has gone away with the warm weather. I can confirm that the last two winters the front end had this issue, and its pretty un-nerving to say the least.

My service adviser said Ford is now cracking down hard when level kits are installed, so I will certainly be SOL when I get it done. He also said Ford has no intention of changing the design, so stressing about it appears futile at this point. He also said the problem could be related to some brass ring in the upper steering column?? Who knows...The only thing for certain is the "made in Taiwan" sticker my rack. As mentioned before, luck of the draw.

On another note.. maybe its time bandage this problem ourselves. Has anyone tried to retrofit a sleeve/absorber on the steering shaft to minimize the effects? I'll try a few things and post with results. Creative minds please chime in!

Good idea!! Got my steering rack replaced two weeks ago. I hope to heck it doesn't go bad again, or if anything does, I hope it's within the warranty period.

As a father of 3 kids, my biggest fear isn't that my steering rattles thru the wheel when I drive, but that I am concerned that the entire system will fail at some point and put my kids and myself in a dangerous situation. If Ford could assure me that there is no chance of this issue causing a failure of some sort, then I could live with the annoyance until it's time to shop for my next vehicle. However, if they don't develop a resolution there is a very good chance that my next truck won't have a blue oval on it.

Anything on any vehicle in any situation can fail at any time. Put your tin foil hat away.

If it fails you lose power steering. OMG.

Greeting All:

2014 XLT 4x4 with 2.5 level kit. purchased vehicle new 30 Aug 14 and got level kit 3 months ago at 10K. vehicle now has 15K and is making clunking sound at full turn. I saw an article on Edmunds that mentioned a recall on 2014 models but didn't get a recall notice. I did get a recall notice for the seat clearance issue. any suggestions, advice, comments?

I understand that anything can fail at any time. That is why I clarified by saying "this issue". Also, as someone who has lost power steering while driving in a previous car it isn't as insignificant as you may believe, especially in a 5000lb. Vehicle. I have no tin foil hat but perhaps you should use your reading glasses?

Per ford, the recall in 2014 was not related to this forum issue. It was related to a batch of racks installed with an incorrect part by Nexteer.

Good luck with your level kit, ford will just blame that and tell you to remove it.

thanks for the advise:

I plan on removing the level kit tomorrow and drive the truck around a few days. If the clunk continues then I will take it in.

Default 2014 Screw F150

Taking mine in next week. I have this popping issue in my steering and it drives me crazy. When I turn the wheel sometimes and start to accelerate I will get a loud pop also. It gets worse the warmer the temperatures are. Dropped by the dealer to set the appointment and he said "I have never heard of that issue". Yeah right
