Wow!!! I finally got er dun!!! I worked disabling firewalls, manually installing drivers, and worked for a few hours last night trying to get the Updater and LiveLink to communicate with my X4 tuner. I know everything was installed properly, and I finally decided that I just wasn't going to have any luck getting my computer to recognize new hardware - I think it's a problem with Windows 8 and the X4 device. So, this morning, after pulling out an old laptop with Vista on it, I loaded up the Updater and LiveLink programs. The old computer is VERY slow, and when I hooked up my X4 the computer said it was looking for a driver - at least that was better than with my Windows 8 machine! After about 5 minutes it just wasn't able to find the driver. I went to the Device Manager to try to get the computer to see the new hardware and find the driver. After more than an hour of connecting the X4, disconnecting, looking all over the computer for the driver, connecting, and disconnecting some more, I was finally able to enable the driver. I could find 3 driver files in an SCT folder in the Program files, but finally found in the Device Manager that there is a "Jungo" device with some kind of a file in it (I'm not sure if it's a driver or what) called something like MBT101 (I can't remember exactly what it was called). It had a yellow exclamation point on it, and when I right clicked on it a box opened that said "enable driver". I clicked on that, and when it activated the driver the name changed from that other name to SCT Driver V10.11, and a box opened that said that new hardware was installed and ready to use - but it called the hardware something like "Device iXTSE10" or some such unrecognizable device. However, I think that's the SCT X4 tuner, because when I went back to LiveLink it finally (after about 2 minutes of looking for the device, was able to communicate with it. I then opened the Updater app and it too took several minutes to recognize the X4, but finally did. I had to transfer my custom tunes to my old computer, but was then finally able to get them onto my X4!!!!!!! Thankfully, once I went out to the truck, downloading the stock tune and installing a custom tune only took a few minutes. So.....after a really royal PITA experience that took several hours of screwing around with two different computers, I finally got my X4 loaded with my custom tunes and put one in the truck. I hope nobody else has the problems I did!!! I don't know whether it's just my computer, or Windows 8 on any computer, but I hope nobody else has to go through the crap I did. SCT has some info about manually installing the driver, but it sure would help if they could explain that you'll be looking for a "Jungo" device, and the driver has a name totally unidentifiable as a driver for an SCT device. .

If you load the software and drivers 1st, when you plug the tuner in Windows automatically sees and sets it, that was my experience with Win 7 anyway.

I put in a 87 economy tune and only drove a few miles this evening to take the wife out to diner, so I didn't get a chance to see how it is yet.
Next week I'll be towing my car hauler trailer (about 6400 lbs) 700 miles up to VIR for a track event, and I'll probably run a couple hundred miles with the stock tune, then put in a perf/tow custom tune to compare it to stock, and I'll post up the results.
That may have been my problem initially when I tried loading it onto my Win 8 machine, but then I uninstalled the programs and reinstalled them to start fresh, and I made sure I didn't plug in my X4 tuner until the programs were all loaded - but the computer still wouldn't recognize new hardware.
On the Win 8 machine I tried all the same stuff I chronicled in my other post that I did on the old Vista machine, but I just could not get the Win 8 computer to recognize the tuner. The old Vista machine was very slow, but I finally got it to see the tuner and all is good!!

The 5.0L & 6.2L tuners do get shipped with the tunes loaded. The ecoboost do not (Because of all the updates to the strategy code). Here is a little post we made about how our ecoboost tuning has to work:
How our EcoBoost Custom Tuning Works
After you order your tuner, you are sent a "blank" tuner without any custom tunes. We'll then send you an email that needs to be completely filled out and emailed back to us. However, you'll need to have your tuner before you can complete the form. If you don't receive a tune email within one business day, check your spam or junk mail folders. After your tuner arrives, you'll need to hook it into your truck and get your PCM Strategy Code and put it in your tune email next to "Strategy". Email your completed tune email back to tuning@stage3motorsports.com. After we receive your completed tune information, the tune itself will be built and sent to you via email as an attachment. Download the tunes .cef files to your computer and use your updated SCT software from SCT's website to upload the tunes to your tuner. Once the tunes are in the tuner, you can then tune your truck. If you need more information or assistance, check out our F150 EcoBoost Tuning How-To blog post.

Thought I would share, currently sitting at Ford to have my truck check to ensure the PCM/TCM's has the latest updates.
Stage3,
Once I am finished can I send you my Strategy code to check if it meets your warranty requirements?

Setup my 87 Perf/Tow tune last night. Reset the gas gauge. Night and day difference driving to work this morning. Feels like I have the stock 40lb tires again. MPGs are already looking better right off the bat, but I will give the computer some time to adjust before I celebrate that too much. I even had a few hundred lbs of clothing in the bed for donation.
Only minor issue is that my SCT X4 only had 4 of the 5 custom tunes on it. (Inquired about this in an email to them this morning.)
Otherwise, Stage3 was very timely with the emails and shipping. Can't wait to drive it some more!

I've been running the 87 perf/tow tune now for a little over 500 miles on 91 octane. Truck just keeps getting stronger and mpg's still creeping up. I was getting 14.5 stock with my level/wheels/tires. I'm now getting 16+. It was always my plan to run the 87 p/t on 91 just to play it safe mainly looking for better shifting. The shifting improvement is night/day over stock and power increase is the real deal. I'm afraid to install the 91 p/t as I may never want to go back. Thanks Stage 3/5*!
