Default Speaker Adapter plugs Necessary?

I ordered the infinity kappas for 2013 FX2. Is it necessary to order the speaker adapter plugs? Can't I just splice the wire? Thanks.

Yes you can splice the wire. The adapters are for those not wanting to splice and/or go back to stock eventually.

All you have to do is strip some of the insulation off the wires before the plug and solder the wires on for the speakers. You can use liquid electrical tape to insulate after you solder your wires. This way you keep the factory plugs in the truck. That's what I did anyway.

If you use the Metra adapter harness be sure to seal the connectors with RTV as they are NOT weather tight like the factory connectors and will fill up with water.

I don't recommend splicing, buy the plugs if not for just a cleaner, factory-like install. I say this as our F-150's are knows to develop the dreaded cracking speaker. It's caused by moisture that gets into the door from the weather-strip when it rains, or car washes etc..

I am still trying to figure out what I am going to do with mine as I have not resolved It yet.

Buy a single speaker baffle, cut it in half and cover the top part of the basket and motor.

All Four Kappas' are in!!! Sounds so much better! Thanks to F150forum I found the speaker wiring schematics and it was easy... It was raining down here in Texas today so I took the truck into the shop to do the speaker swap. When I got into the door panels what do I find? Water! All over the factory speakers! I didn't have baffles so I just wrapped those rascals in gallon zip lock bags, zip tied the crossover in place and put the speakers in place with the ziplock coming out from behind the speaker so when I tightened them the pressure would hold the bags in place. I checked to make sure they didn't make any kind of noise or interfere with the audio and I put everything back together. Lmao at least they will stay dry!
