Simple upgrade to nav system audio
I followed the "editors pick" in Crutchfield for a drop-in replacement for the door speakers; Boston Acoustics SR80. Boy what a difference! All the dull highs are a thing of the past plus the midrange and bass are now punchy and clear, fabulous soundstage and dispersion. The overall loudness of the system is up significantly too thanks to better speaker efficiency. Thanks to Ford for making the swap a piece of cake, the entire installation time per door is about 15 min since the speaker drops right in, even used the Ford original speaker srews needed only to drill one hole! Here's a pic to show the 2 way SR 80 vs the OEM "Sony" (made in China) single way speaker. No separate crossovers needed Not cheap (600 for 4) but very satisfying and easy to do!http://i261.photobucket.com/albums/i...H/DSC_4819.jpg

BTW a few installation pointers....
In the front doors the tweeters have to point AFT if you put the speakers with the tweeter forward the windows will hit the woofer assembly. I found that out after I had finished all 4 doors . On the rear door its not a problem.
2- Keep an eye out for the mounting nut behind the door handle its easy to jiggle it out of place when reinstalling the door panel an having it fall in the door. The plastic covering the door is a PITA to remove!
In Summary: if you keep those pointers in mind during installation the installation is a BREEZE. I can testify its quick since I had to do the fronts twice
The sound is AMAZING. Not a little better, a whole lot better. Add to that the sub packing job (done a long time ago) and you have a no holds barred first rate mobile audio system
BTW the rear OEM are 2 way contrary to the front, not that you would ever know since they sounded flat as a pancake LOL

Just spoke to someone at crutchfield and they said that Boston Acoustics are no longer going to make car audio speakers, and they only have one left. So if you want these speaker better go find them on the web. Figures they really make good car speakers.
