When you say "tight fit" was it just getting them to stuff in the opening in the door?
Yeah, I can't speak to 'standard vs slim' as I didn't look at the standard in person... the baffle itself fit through the opening fine, but the outer lip portion gets bunched up and I should have trimmed it more (in retrospect) to get it to lay completely flat when I attaching the speakers... kinda' hard to explain

OK, I think I'm going to try it.

drsubie - What did you do with the little bezel that comes taped to the outside of the speaker? Just leave it in place or take it off?

Well, just completed the install. It took about 1-1.5hrs for all 4 doors.

Door locks were the most difficult thing to account for, but otherwise pretty simple.

Overall the audio quality is better for sure. I listen to 99.9% country, so it's mostly treble heavy music. That said, I popped in some hip-hop for tuning purposes, and man these things have some midrange punch to them.

Very nice. I did a speaker upgrade this weekend, but I used the Kicker upgrade kit. Did all 4 speakers, and Sub, today I will get the amps wired up. This system was all plug in play, everything plug straight up to the existing wires and system. The sound was notably better. I'm running just the base system.

I had to take it off because of the Boom mat I used... I think the bezel is just there to protect the woofer excursion when it's 'woofing'--it certainly didn't add any structural rigidity to the speaker...

Yeah, the door locks and prying up the window controls were the worst part--did you remove the door lock sleeve? I only figured that trick out when I had 1 door left LOL...

I didn't but I should have. I read your tips ahead of doing the install, but I guess I didn't read for comprehension. I was able to slip a finger in-between the door covers and lock mechanism to force it into place, but I'm sure removing that lock sleeve would have made it significantly easier.

After a test drive I heard some rattling in the door, so I'm going to have to pull it apart again. I'll defiantly be removing it next time.

I will say that I was slightly surprised at the quality of the Sony speakers I removed. Although clearly inferior to the Infinity speakers that replaced them, they certainly weren't the paper speakers I've seen in past ford trucks.

Yeah, that was my impression of the Sony OEM speakers too--I was expecting paper pulp cone, but I think it was some sort of mylar material, probably a smart choice for humid conditions in the door panel...

I was also surprised at how heavy the magnet was--the Infinity magnets weren't significantly heavier...

After getting back into modding my truck, I'm getting the itch to add an amp and possibly either upgrading the tweeters vs throwing in some old MB Quart separates I have laying around...
