Default Shock went out

Right front shock on my truck went bad. Oil was coming out of it. The dealer replaced it with no problems....mech said he never saw a truck new as mine with the mileage I have (16k) have a shock "blow out" like mine was.

I got my truck with 21k miles. The front struts were already replaced.

I did them all at about 30k miles. I put on bilstein 5100's. The ride is 100x better. The factory shocks are not great in my opinion.

I put the rears on myself a few days before I had the fronts put on. Made a huge difference. Got rid of that jittery feeling. I have put bilsteins on my last 3 trucks. Best thing I have done to them. Makes a truck handle much better.

After the struts shocks and the helwig rear sway bar my truck handles perfect now. It is still a big truck but it drives so much different.

No dealer employee has ever seen any repair needed. Ever. Seriously, just ask. Your vehicle is the first one of its kind to enter their shop.

I've thought for years that factory shocks, are just that. Good enough to get from the factory to you.

I have 80,000 on my stock FX4 shocks with no issues however I will probably upgrade when tax season comes around. Still that's crazy low miles to have a failure like that. To me a good set of shocks should last at least 75,000 miles or 50,000 under heavy use.

Had one of my rear shocks start leaking @ 5000 miles, probably longer than that just I didn't notice it until I put the lift kit on.

I was looking at my front shocks....the spring sits on a shelf midway up the shock....does this make the assembly a strut ? Is it all built together? Can a shadetree mech change these out like the old front shock types?
Thanks

Did the front end feel off, bouncy? Trying to figure out when to replace mine.

Yes technically it is a strut, some call it a coil over. Changing it requires the use of a spring compressor.
