Default Shock recommendations

truck is in my sig. has 46,800 miles now and I bought It used in oct, we towed our new tt last week with a bit of a rough ride, prob a hitch issue but I also notice the truck when not towing has a bit of bounce to it when the road gets rough and I’m wondering if the rear shocks need replaced. A) how would I know if I need new shocks especially on a used vehicle and B) what shocks would be good to upgrade too? I see bilstein are very popular and while I don’t have plans to level my truck anytime soon if they had the option maybe I would. I also see bilstein makes diff shocks, I guess which would be best to take the bounce out of the truck while daily driving and be good for towing. Lastly do I need to replace front and rear or just rear?

I replaced my factory shocks with Bilstein 5100's on all four corners at 50,000 miles, I now have 116k on the truck. I raised the front 1.5" and they have been solid shocks, absolutely no complaints with the front. My rear 5100's have been another story, they have both been replaced three times under warranty. The good thing is Bilstein has been good to work with and it was an easy return process. The bad is obviously replacing them, not that it takes a long time to install but six times is a bit much. I personally will probably go with a different option for the rear shocks next time.
