Default Shock length question

How do you properly size a shock for a lifted truck? For instance I see Fox shocks for “0-1” lift”. And “4-8 lift”.

If if I put a 4” lift on my truck, it will probably only raise my rear by 1.5-2”.

Are shocks listed for the lift kit (4”) or the actual lift amount (2”)?

The proper way is to lift the truck, no shock, then fully compress and extend each corner and measure the max/min shock length.
