Default Shipping wheels and tires

Need to ship some wheels and tires to another forum member and need some help.

Why is the best/cheapest way to ship them?

Factory lariat 20's going from Georgia to rhode island.

Shipping quote he got was like 800
Bucks and that seems way high.

Please help

Default Try shipping each

wheel and tire as a separate package. 4 labels and 4 packages. Make sure the label stays on tire.

That's the way Tire Rack sent me some tires.

A few years ago I paid $256 for shipping on a set of 18" FX4 rims and tires. This was from a priivate party (like myself) that doesn't have a shipping account with UPS. Luckily I got the rims/tires cheap.

Sometimes you can send bulky items on a Greyhound bus, yes on the bus. It might be cheaper too. A shop I worked at as a kid got parts I would go pick up at the bus stop sometimes.

I've shipped MANY sets of tires and wheels (more than 25 sets easily) and have always done it this way.....

1. Go buy at least one roll of shrink wrap from OfficeDepot or OfficeMax. It comes in a roll about 4" in diameter and about 2 feet wide.

2. Find carboard boxes about the size of the wheel/tire diameter to cover them with.

3. Make cardboard cutouts the size of the overall diameter of the tire and make one inside and outside, 8 total if you are sending 4 wheels/tires.

4. Stand each one up and put the cardboard "discs" on the outside and inside. Tape it to the tire on top and bottom. Then start walking around the tire and wrap the snot out of it in the shrink wrap. You will probably go around each tire at least 20-25 times to build up enough wrap to safely cover the tire and wheel.

5. If you are sending lugs/center caps, put them in a zip lock bag and tape them to the inner portion of one of the wheels.

Now granted I'm in TX, but shipping via UPS Ground at a UPS Store, I can usually ship them for about 55-60 dollars per wheel and tire anywhere in the U.S. They CAN and WILL ship via UPS regardless of what anyone else tells you.

You may have to buy more than one roll of the shrink wrapping for bigger wheels/tires.

Note that minus the shrink wrap this is exactly how TireRack ships their wheel/tire combos. They put the carboard discs on them and leave the part of the tire that touches the road completely exposed and secures them with nylon straps. The shrink wrap just takes it a little further to ensure no damage occurs.
