Yeah, if you look at Figure E in those instructions, you can see the air dam and its mounting stud in the background. Looks like the bracket just uses the two tow hook holes. The BlueOx uses the front tow hook hole and the air dam hole, covering up and not using the rear tow hook hole.

RoadMaster Brackets

ShapeShifter - finally got my brackets installed today and thought you'd like to see the results. The profile is small...awesome. The mounting required removing the tow hooks, replacing the existing bolts, plus one additional bolt up high. The air dam remains intact and in place. The bolt on took all of 20 minutes!

When I have a minute tomorrow I'll add a photo with the attachment point (bracket) in place as well. Frankly, I forgot it today in all the drama!

Purple Heart? Thank you for your service and sacrifice!

The installation looks nice. Let me know what it's like getting the hitch pin for the bracket in and out.

I struggled over the decision between Blue Ox and Roadmaster. On my last truck (Avalanche) I went with the Roadmaster MX style baseplate because it looked stronger than the other options, especially since it included an extra brace that went to the lower front cross member. Plus, I liked the looks and function of the Roadmaster tow bars more than Blue Ox, so that helped sway my choice towards Roadmaster. But in practice, it was difficult to reach in through the tow hook opening to get the hitch pin in place and insert the hair clip (and difficult to remove as well.) I would generally end up laying on my back and crawling under the bumper to do it from behind the bumper fascia. Then I would connect the safety cable connectors from the front. It was a rather involved process and got annoying enough that I would put the brackets on in the spring, and leave it all in place until fall.

Because of this, I liked the idea of the Blue Ox twist lock tabs that insert and remove in a few seconds. Plus there are no safety cables between the bracket and tabs; the safety cables from the motorhome connect directly to brackets, bypassing the tabs. My discovery of the replacement towbar ends that allow a Roadmaster tow bar to connect to a Blue Ox baseplate made the decision to switch easier. My only concern was that the brackets didn't look as beefy in the installation instructions drawings. Boy was I wrong, these brackets are solid! Very thick steel. So now it's so easy to insert and remove the tabs, that I can do it for every trip, and the hardware doesn't hang on the front of the truck all of the time. That's better for appearance, and makes it less likely that they will be bothered by weather, accident, and vandalism.

So I'll be curious to hear how easy they are to insert and remove, and how often you actually do it. Both you and I have already committed to our brands of baseplate, but maybe our observations will help others to make up their minds.

There is another forum ( perhaps you're already there) called iRV forum where this subject is getting a lot of attention since Ford became 4 down towable in 2012. You might want to post there as well

I have done that, CLICK HERE to see that thread. Anyone who is interested in this topic might want to check it out. It starts out with the same posts as this thread, but subsequent discussion adds some more details.

When you are setting the truck in tow mode do you turn the key all the way to off? Does this allow the wheels to turn (steer)? I had to leave my Jeep out of the lock position...not sure what to do with my 2018 F150.
