Default Salesman ''please know the basics''

Been to delearships many times for simple Q. and most of theme still have to look in the books. What's the interest rate? Not sure, come in my office and will see...noooo, I want the answer off hand, they sould know that. You didn't even get an answer for the brand of tires that come with the truck. What kind of service is that? I oprate about 50 machines from a distance and they are all different, hydro stations, gas turbines, steam turbines, compressors you name it... And when my supervisor walks in the control room and ask's me the most simple Q. I dont look in the books for the A. Know your stuff and stay competitive or you will lose customers...

Ur salesmen don't just sell F150, he also sells all of the cars that ford makes. how do you expect him to know everything about everything. To know everything about every vehicle that he sells he would spend all of his time studying and not selling. Also interest rate may change every few days so unless he checked that morning he wouldn't know. Ford is not consistent with the brands of tires that they put on the vehicles so he couldn't answer that anyway.

So you sit at a computer screen and monitor machinery- big deal. IF you want an answer you can look at the computer screen, how is that different than the salesman looking in the order guide- guess what, it is exaxtly the same thing. quite yer bitching, buy a truck and shut up

Most dealerships have a lot of turnover with salesmen. So you are going to find that there will be a lot of "new guys" that could be a first time car salesman, from a chevy dealer, or just a slimeball that wants to feed you a line.

The salesman. Almost never know what they are talking about.

Still no excuse. I completely agree with the OP. I test drove a Toyota Tacoma about 2 years ago because I thought it looked bad*****. It was lifted and had all the bells and whistles. During the test drive, I asked the salesmen the most basic questions; questions I already knew. He ripped the window sticker off the window and started reading it to me while I was driving!!!! Ridiculous!!!

I agree with you. I'm not making excuses for them, I'm simply proving a point that they are usually all idiots. When I got my 2010 I had to show the salesman how the sync worked!!!

I agree the salesmen should know the product they sale. I knew more about the truck line than the sales guys I talked to. It seems to me it would be in their best interest to become educated on what they sale.
Or maybe truckercarl is right, and you expect to much....

As a previous salesman, I can agree with knowing your shiznit but I would take the guy who is straight up and say's " I'm not sure but let me look it up for ya" instead of the guy that will BS you.

I used to get all worked up when sales people didn't know their product; no more.

Most of the auto sales jobs are the bottom of the job chain, very very few make a good living.

I realized it isn't really important if the sales person knows his product or not. It is important that I know the product.

I would say that few people set out to buy a car without any idea of what type or model they are going to buy, and depend on a salesman to make the decision, and educate them.

We only use the sales person because they stand between us and the vehicle we want. I would like to just go to the ''how much'' man.
