Sounds like a tough situation, honestly -- and, at its root, has nothing to do with safety concerns (assuming you are a normal, responsible driver and person). I've never been involved in a divorce, thank goodness; however, as a father, myself, I know I would feel incredible pain inside, seeing my children with a new "dad" figure. I don't know how one could be human, and not feel viscerally strongly about one's children... So, I guess what I'm saying is to try to make the best of the situation, and try to empathize with his feelings (although you needn't accommodate his every whelm, of course!) and always act like the "bigger" man in tense situations, no matter what.
Yeah, it's and I expected and knew what I'm getting into. I can't help when love got involved. Kids actually like me. The oldest son who is daddy boy actually stood up for me when his dad said bad thing about me. I do feel bad for him and kids but their marriage end has nothing to do with me. My woman said the exact same thing what you said snort being bigger man in this situations.

Sorry I forget to answer your question. I just had an inspection and emission passed a month ago. Only warning I got is my tires stick too far out. That's it.
