Default Rust repair

Im having one of my cab corners replaced on my 2012. Rotting through. Im also going to have my rocker panels repatined because they are all chipped up from not running running boards. There are small bits of surface rust on them from the bare metal (not rusting from inside). Is there any special prep work i could do prior to painting them to help prevent them from rusting through my paint. Planned on having the rockers sanded down completely and cleaned up. Probably should have them sand blasted, but doubt the ford dealer ship will do that. Again the rockers arent rotten. Just surface.

Btw my truck was completely ziebarted inside all rockers and doors when brand new and still lost a cab corner. the drivers cab corner appears to be perfect still. I replaced my 3rd brake light recently with an aftermarket one that had a really good looking seal, so i hope that helps prevent this in the future.

Found this thread about the drains in the back of the truck. I wonder if ours have this. Also stated that trucks without sunroofs have these. I'm going to have mine re routed as well. I wonder if there is anyway to reach this without having the cab corner removed.

No idea about drains, that thread didn't exactly clear up any questions. I'm using Fluid Film inside the rockers once a year to hopefully hold off rust.

I will defiantly look into that. My inside rockers are ziebarted, but extra protection for what ever they missed wont hurt.
