Default Rust

Hey all. First time Post. Been lurking for a while... finally signed up.

I have owned two F150's, two Rangers, and two Big Broncos in my day. I have always been a 'Ford Guy'. By the way.. Everyone hear they are bringing the Bronco back? ...way cool!

Currently I am in a 2010 XLT SCREW w/ 5.4 and 4WD. Love this truck! Drives like a dream.

My problem and question: In the bottom corners behind the second doors, I have significant rust. I have tried to fix it myself but I admit I didn't do such a good job. Is this something that a body shop can fix? What with all the bends in the steel... I am hoping this is fixable. Anyone else have that problem? What did you do? suggestions?

It's common on the 04-14 super crew trucks that are in an area where salt is used.

Yes it's fixable. They sell cab corner replacements. The current cab corner needs to be cut out and the new one welded in. Then painted of course.

"cab corners"... now I know the term to search for. Seems as though this is very common.

thanks for the direction

Also make sure your 3rd brake light isn't leaking. I'd recommend pulling it and adding a bead of black RTV to be safe. That's why a lot of these cab corners end up rusting out. Water gets in through the 3rd brake light and sits in there, rusting from the inside out.

Yep - I already fixed the 3rd brake light and the GPS antenna. Both were leaking.

I have a cab on the back that I didn't want to take off... so I just caulked the third brake light. If/when I ever remove the cab, I will clean it up and do it right.

Like others have said unfortunately very common from 04 and up. Another great design by Ford!
